The prevailing wind direction is set on the white outer ring, and the position of the upwind mark is indicated by an orange arrow. If the compass heading suddenly deviates from that shown on the trim dial, the change must be adjusted by turning the inner circle. A quick glance then reveals which tack is best for the upwind mark.
