This has been a subject on my mind for the last few weeks particuarly with my kids. I am not scared to put 100 pounds over my head – although it did scare the crap out of me months ago! Mostly, I am scared of what my kids MIGHT do when I’m watching or not.
Like the time my 4 year old ran across a busy parking lot…
Or when my oldest is out in the middle of a lake kayaking by himself…
Or just when they are riding their bikes on the streets..what if they swerve into traffic or miss a stopsign?
I have anxiety just thinking about these things! Do you? How do you handle it? Does age have anything to do with it? Is an older parent more protective or less? What a about a younger parent in their 20’s- are they scared beyond belief when their kids do something ridiculous or am I just TOO OVERPROTECTIVE?! Ugg…this subject haunts me and makes me a crabby mommy cause I’m always worrying about them.
How do other mother’s handle the scary stuff?

Wow, wow, wow…This article is fascinating! Forbes recently published an extensive artice on the “medical benefits” that some food companies are claiming are good for your health. Two of the products mentioned are two that I’ve written about here- FRS Energy Drink and the Lifeway Probugs Yogurt for kids. Basically, food companies are repackaging old products with new claims- that good bugs can be good for your digestive track or that quercetin can give you energy (FRS). Bottom line, food or drink manufacturers can say whatever they want with no particular scientific evidence backing up their claims. Stick with fruits and vegetables!

Instead of thinking that you must “workout out” think in terms of training. You are training to get stronger, faster and leaner. You always have a goal when you walk in your gym door. You give it 100% or more and you leave nothing left! You stay late or arrive early to work extra hard. Or you do a double workout in one day to workout skills you need help with. You study journals, books, and magazines to get the latest news….You do what you can to do it better!
I truly believe that if you have good trainers and good friends around you, you can have it all!

How do you think about a workout? Is it just “get it done” or do you have a goal in mind???
My amazing workout buddies, Penny and Katia.

Title Nine does a good job of offering bras for all types of women athletes and I love the 1-4 barbell classification that they use….Bras for small-chested types are actually really hard to find. I’ve blogged about several bras that have worked for me in the past (Handful, Inc and Kalyx), however, these are both sports bras that work great for working out, but, are not so great for the cute, sleeveless tops I have. Oftentimes, I do resort to sports bras for all day because these are the most comfortable, but, they do not work with lots of regular clothes!
I would really like to hear from all of you with the same issue on a day to day bra!?!?
Below, is what I’ve found when doing a search, but I have not tried any of them.

Not-A-Bomber for A/B Cups

Henna Bra

Cotton Not a Bomber

This is one amazing product! I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to try out two of LivingFuel’s products this month {LivingProtein and the Double Chocolate CocoChia Sustained Energy Bars} and I have seriously impressed.
LivingFuel offers a wide variety of products from Therasweet ( a natural sweetener) to Super Greens to LivingProtein. The protein powder has been fantastic as it offers a complete plant protein of 20 grams of protein per serving.
Information on the LivingProtein is below:
* Enzymes for easy digestion and optimal delivery of nutrients to the body;
* Non-GMO rice and non-GMO pea proteins;
* Non-GMO and pesticide-free stabilized brown rice bran;
* Patented probiocap probiotics (stabilized to store well at room temperature);
* Therasweet, all natural sweetener;
* Buffered Vitamin C for antioxidant protection; and
* A neutral taste, with a slight natural sweetness.
I’ve been using this protein for the last month and have loved it. When mixed with water alone the taste is a bit chalky, however, with fruit and non-sweetened vanilla almond milk, it’s delicious!
My kids and I both loved the CocoChia Double Chocolate Sustained Energy Bar. These bars satisfied my chocolate craving and served as treats for both my kids and I.
To learn more about LivingFuel, I strongly recommend reading the about story.
All of LivingFuel’s products are available online.

The New York Times recently ran an article about Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe who are both professional marathon runners who are now also pregnant and still training hard!
Hooray for them!
I know all of you mother’s who were runners before pregnancy have a story to tell on this subject. For me, during my first pregnancy, I was told I Could Not Run!?!?!?! Seriously? I was in my 1st trimester, feeling great, and all of a sudden- WHAM- No running. I had had no side effects & no pains whatsoever! And running was my means of exercise. Overnight (it seemed) I’d gained 20 pounds! Long story short, we invested in a treadmill, and I spent the rest of my pregnancy reading and walking on it for hours!
How many of you ran through your pregnancies? Times are changing and I think that if you’re body is used to a certain kind of exercise that you should be able to keep doing it when you are pregnant!
Thoughts on this?

Introducing Icebreaker. A New Zealand brand that offers sustainable clothing for men and women in merino wool. All the products have a baacode- a way in which a person can trace their clothing straight back to the sheep station. The story of Mr. Moon, owner of Icebreaker fascinates me! You can read more about his company in Time Magazine or in Financial Times.

Image Credit: Time Magazine
What did I like about it?
*You can trace your shirt back to the sheep and the farmer.
*The shirt is soft as silk and does not hold any odors.
*It’s a sustainable product meaning it came from natural sources- unlike Patagonia whose products are made from recycled soda bottles.
*All the styles are very flattering and stylish in the long term classic kind of way.
*Although one shirt or dress will be run you $60 and up, these are long lasting, high quality pieces that you will cherish.
Below are some other styles that I loved!
I bet if you had the opportunity to touch it and feel it against your skin, you’d love it too.
P.S. I received the Icebreaker GT200 for purposes of review and I am very thankful to have it. All opinions here are my own!!

Yes, on Mother’s Day Eve, I am proud to say that not only did I get out on a hike with my family, but I also got to go on a bike ride with my amazing workout buddy! Whoo Hoo! I was actually hollering out my street on the way Up the Course!
Scenes from the hike, courtesy of good friend Angie…

Do you ever wake up thinking, I’m going to try something new today? Something physical that you never would even dream up on your own??? In Cross Fit, almost daily, you think you can’t. Or you think, I can do it, but it will be brutal! Last week, we did 400 Jumping Squats split with a partner followed by 300 wall balls (using a complete squat for each one) followed by 200 50 Kettlebell Swings plus 20 Man Makers with 15 pound dumbbells in each hand. And, not once did I think twice about it…but, if I’d seen that workout the night before, I’d have thought, I can’t do that!
So, check this photo out! I am swinging a 35 pound kettlebell while balancing on two uneven posts. Yikes! I was scared to death. And, we did three rounds of 30 swings on those posts. Note: I eventually got my feet on a higher one which made it easier, but, this is the hardest thing I have done to date! And, those swings came after an 800 meter run up a GIANT dirt trail!

What have you done lately that scared you?
