Featured Product: LivingFuel

This is one amazing product! I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to try out two of LivingFuel’s products this month {LivingProtein and the Double Chocolate CocoChia Sustained Energy Bars} and I have seriously impressed.

LivingFuel offers a wide variety of products from Therasweet ( a natural sweetener) to Super Greens to LivingProtein. The protein powder has been fantastic as it offers a complete plant protein of 20 grams of protein per serving.

Information on the LivingProtein is below:

* Enzymes for easy digestion and optimal delivery of nutrients to the body;
* Non-GMO rice and non-GMO pea proteins;
* Non-GMO and pesticide-free stabilized brown rice bran;
* Patented probiocap probiotics (stabilized to store well at room temperature);
* Therasweet, all natural sweetener;
* Buffered Vitamin C for antioxidant protection; and
* A neutral taste, with a slight natural sweetness.

I’ve been using this protein for the last month and have loved it. When mixed with water alone the taste is a bit chalky, however, with fruit and non-sweetened vanilla almond milk, it’s delicious!

My kids and I both loved the CocoChia Double Chocolate Sustained Energy Bar. These bars satisfied my chocolate craving and served as treats for both my kids and I.

All of LivingFuel’s products are available online.

Product Review: Neocell’s Collagen Sport Recovery Protein Powder

June 10th, 2010 · 1 Comment

On the subject of protein powders, here’s one to consider: Neocell’s Collagen Sport Recovery Protein Powder. I was originally intrigued by this powder because the subject line of the email was about recovery from exercise. For the amount of exercise I get and the soreness factor {I am always sore}, recovery is seriously important. The internet is clogged with information on how to recover from exercise and which protein powders work best for which situation, etc…  Neocell is one of the first companies to combine collagen and protein powder in a nutritional supplement.   Neocell’s Collagen Sport Recovery Protein powder has 30 grams of protein, 0 grams of carbohydrate and 0 grams of fat! For those of us on the zone diet, this is an incredible opportunity to really focus on getting quality protein and at the same time, eat complete carbohydrate blocks from fruits and vegetables…

So, with that in mind, here’s what we found out after using the protein powder for several weeks. Written by a fellow crossfitter, Angie.

“I drink the collagen protein with 8oz of water right after a major workout. Sometimes I’ll eat a banana with it because these things carry well in my bag. Several times I’ve used the protein as a night time snack for extra recovery. I find the taste to be pretty good and the texture is smooth, it mixes very well. I’ve tested this product for two weeks and found that even though my muscles were still sore from the big workouts I was doing, they weren’t as sore. In addition to the “quicker” muscle recovery, the protein powder is an amazingly delicious and satiating meal when mixed with carbs (banana) and fats (peanut butter). I’ll continue to use to see what other benefits it provides.”

The product’s key ingredients include:

  • Whey protein to fuel muscle growth, increase amino acid levels and help the body recover from workouts
  • Collagen to maintain strength and flexibility of ligaments, bones, joints, tendons, muscles and blood vessels
  • L-Glutamine to replenish amino acids depleted during exercise
  • L-Lysine to support the immune system and produce collagen
  • Pomegranate to provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits
  • 20 types of vitamins, minerals and amino acids

Neocell’s Sport Collagen will be available in July and if you’re interested in learning more about click here.

Quick, healthy meal on the go: Perfect Foods Bar

May 26th, 2010 · No Comments

As you may have read last week, I am on the Zone diet. {Meaning, my goals for each meal are 21 grams of protein, 27 grams of carbohydrate and 7 grams of fat}. Meals should be ideally lean protein, fruits and veggies for the carbohydrate and a small bag of nuts for the fat. However, I’m also ridiculously busy during the school day! There are days when I don’t sit down for one meal until dinner. So, I’m always looking for ways to get my meals quick!!

I was thrilled to be offered the chance to try the Perfect Foods bar for purposes of review on this site. First of all, the protein and carbohydrate grams are almost exactly what I need for a three block meal. Obviously, the fat grams are higher than I need, but, I’m okay with it! The taste is fantastic- pretty much like eating a healthy version of a peanut butter bar.  They also have a Perfect Foods Bar Lite which has only 8 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbohydrates and 9 grams of protein.

These bars can be found in the refrigerated section of your health food store or online.

You can read more about the Perfect Food Bar here.

Have you tried this bar? Do you like or dislike? What do you eat for a meal on the run?

An eco-friendly water bottle that has a built in filter so that you can fill your bottle anytime, anywhere! Save money and help the planet by using refillable water bottles and here is one that can filter the water as well. With a price of $9.95, made from recycled materials, this is a unique, must have product.

I received this water bottle for purposes of review and I love it.  You all will love it too!  It’s stylish, simple to use and will fit in any girl’s purse. On our recent trip to Monterey, I simply refilled my bottle anywhere we went! I didn’t have to buy any bottled water and could refill it as often as I liked!

Highly recommend.
