Who is FitMom today?

July 22nd, 2010 · 4 Comments

Let’s celebrate my 3 year anniversary with a little of who and what I am today versus 3 years ago:

She loves it when her boys can play for hours with nothing but 2 old couches and their cushions…

She loves rest days but can’t wait to get back in the box and test out her strengths, weaknesses and mental toughness…

She loves going to sleep at night hearing the sounds of Phil Ligget, Bob Roll, and Paul Sherwin calling the shots in the Tour de France…

She loves iced green tea and pedicures…

She loves that her husband is doing crossfit…

Can be generous to a fault but can’t remember to send birthday or thank you cards, ever!

has amazing friends…

can spend WAY too much time studying crossfit journals and videos!

still loves yoga!

has one month till her next crossfit invitational!

needs to plan a BIG ASS GOAL for her 40th birthday next year?!?!?

Who are you and what do you love?

Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day

May 3rd, 2010 · 1 Comment

DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine, $85.95.

Jewelry by Bronwen Online. Prices start at $42.00.

A Killer Dress! Patagoina, $79.00.

Sur La Table Grilling Basket, $34.95.

Since we visited this olive oil farm in Italy, I can personally recommend this brand as a high quality- save for special occassions, Italian Olive Oil.  However, unless you live in Canada, you can’t ship it to the US without spending $30 on shipping! So, anybody want to recommend a high quality olive oil for us US citizens?

These are just a few ideas for this coming Mother’s Day.   Bottom line, however, is to make the mother in your life feel special!  Love them and take care of them as if we were a queen, just for one day.

What do you want for Mother’s Day?

Thank you workout mommy for always speaking your mind!

To MizFit for making me think.

Fitarella for being such an awesome cheerleader.  You are amazing.

To Bobbi for consistent cheerfulness.

Metropolitan Mama for inspiring other mommy bloggers!

To MamaSweat for making me laugh and being an amazing writer.

To all the women owned businesses who’s products I adore, thank you!

To my friends and family for supporting me with this site and the time it takes away from them, I am thankful for your continued love and support.

To all of YOU who may be reading but not commenting, I know you’re there-so thanks for reading!

This post may seem late or out of left field, but, even when I haven’t said it out loud, I am truly thankful to have known you all even though a many of you I have never met in person.  I love blogging.   Blogging has connected me to a world outside the one I am living in and I love the life perspective it gives me.

This post sounds as if I am signing off…but, no, you are not going to get rid of me, I just wanted to give a “shout out” and spend some time being thankful for what I have and what I have been given from all of you.

“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.”

Immune Fighting Herbs. What products do you take to prevent illness?

March 2nd, 2010 · No Comments

Sickness.  It seems to be rampant around here lately.  We get over one cold and the next one hits within three months.  Argh.  This time, it struck both my kids on the same day- fever, cough, sore throat…you name it.    I have been coughed on, kissed,  or shared toilet seats..with two feverish kids and amazingly have NOT YET GOTTEN SICK.

3 Months Ago, Whole Foods sent me a press release on immune building products for the flu season.  Our flu season seems to by cyclical- every few months, we have a new viral infection.  And, you know, it sucks.  I hate seeing my kids sick.  The weird thing is that I have not gotten sick at all.  Between my Whole Foods press release and my Facebook account, I ran a series of questions yesterday on what to take in case of sickness or even possible sickness.  The answers I got ranged from eating whole garlic cloves to Zirmac to 2000 miligrams of Vitamin C (Emergen C) to tumeric to cayenne pepper to kale and the list goes on…..I am no expert on this subject, but, the products below are the ones that have been working for me – as I have not been sick!

Wellness Formula manufactured by Source Naturals. Basically, it’s a herbal defense complex with garlic, echinacea, elderberry extract, and a bunch of other herbs that I can’t pronounce.  I take it as soon as I feel any scratchy throat, head ache or in times of the kids being sick!

Emergen – C, 1000 miligrams per packet.

Fish Oil- Your choice on brand.

SLEEP.  Try to get an extra hour in bed.  I know that has a lot to do with everything!

The ZONE diet.

What do you all take in the event of sickness or preventing sickness?

P.S. Whole Foods provided me with an 8 day supply of the Welless Formula and I have since repurchased at my local health food store.

Family Day at Rim Nordic!

February 8th, 2010 · No Comments

We spend one to two day every year cross country skiing.  I love it and I love how easy it is for my kids to just get on their skis and go–very little skill involved.  Rim Nordic is our one and only cross country ski resort local to us.  There are about 6 miles of trails to ski on, all groomed, with levels of difficulty ranging from very easy to hard.  This is the same location that hosts mountain bike events in the summer.

Best parts of skiing for us are the ability to get outdoors with our kids and do something together as a family.  They are now **cough cough** almost 4 and 6!  Seems like just yesterday I was snow shoeing with Benjamin in a baby bjorn!

Even for guys as young as mine, you can rent all the equipment right there on site.  We put Ryan on skiis when he was 2!

There goes daddy with Ryan.  Who’s a natural for about 45 minutes! And then, he just sits down and says he’s tired.

Moms don’t need poles!  I’ve found it’s far easier to ski without so that you’re hands are free to put  my youngest between my legs on the downhills.

In the end, the most important thing is that they have fun.  My youngest and I completed the 1 mile loop together and then he was done.  And Daddy spent over an hour skiing with Benjamin!  That is a LOT of exercise for little kids.

My husband and I each had time for a little 30 minute solo ski at the end of the day and that was great as well.

The children were thrilled to just play in the snow as well!

What’s Your Favorite Skincare Product?

January 26th, 2010 · 8 Comments

Being that if you’re reading this, you are probably an athlete, I would assume that most of us have our personal favs in the skincare department, right?!!

I’m looking for a super, duper hand cream.  (have you seen my hands lately?)

I’m looking for a moisturizing SPF daily cream for my face (reminder I teach 1-3 hours outside daily).

HAIRCARE:  This is a biggy for me.  Yes, I color my hair!  I also sweat every single day.  What products do you use to keep the color, but, also not have a sweaty grimy head.  Some hairdressers say- shampoo every day, some say every other day and one said only 2x per week?!?!?

Sure could use some advice in this department, thanks in advance!
