Yes, I really needed to add soccer to my resume of sports played, hahahaha! I teach soccer and have never loved teaching it, and now, today, I got to play on a women’s adult team just for fun. Nope, I don’t know the technical rules of the game. Yes, I bought dorky looking cleats today. No, there wasn’t a coach. Yes, there were women of all ages playing soccer! From moms to young teenagers to over 50 grandmother’s all playing in the same game! Not that competitive, but, a great place to start for someone who’s never really played before.
I offered to play defense or in the midfield and wasn’t always sure where to be, but, the other girls yelled at me and it was fun. I basically put myself between the ball and the goalie and did a lot of sprints! Definitely counts as a sprint workout for me and it was kind of nice to just run after a ball rather than watching a stopwatch and running for time. Since this was my first time ever playing adult soccer, I was glad I came home uninjured and I can see how injuries could be prevalent in this sport especially when there is no set warm up of any kind and from the whistle it’s “GO”.
Can’t wait to try it again!
