I am a 1971 baby. I didn’t grow up watching Jack Lalanne on TV- we watched the Brady Bunch, Starsky and Hutch and lots of Star Wars! I don’t remember hearing about his 1984 his Queen Mary Mile where he towed 70 boats with 70 people while handcuffed and shackled. I do remember seeing Jack and Elaine on TV selling their juicer, however, I never bought one nor did I really know his history until I read his book. WOW. Where have I been the last 40 years?! How could I have missed hearing about all his amazing and ridiculous feats of strength? This guy was the original in health and fitness. Opening the first gym and designing the first leg curl machine and using weights to get stronger! How cool is that! Check out this youtube video of him at the Arnold Classic. He’s still pounding his fists on the podium…”You can make it happen” (or something similar) Absolutely wanting to HELP people change their lives.
Live Young Forever by Jack Lalanne is a totally enjoyable fast read which I thoroughly enjoyed! I’m looking forward to reading more about him and talking about him to my students and kids! One of my favorite things he says is go to your bedroom and shut the door. Then, remove all your clothes down to your birthday suit and look at yourself in the mirror. Do you like what you see? If not, it’s time to do something about it!!
