Adding whey and even yogurt to your kid’s drinks for the probiotic benefits can be challenging. Sometimes it’s easier to just trick them into drinking healthily, such as putting probiotic yogurt into smoothies or a few tablespoons of whey in watered-down juice. That’s the easy way; however, what lessons in healthy drinking habits would we be providing our children if we have to con them?
Thankfully, there are a variety of kid-friendly probiotic products available for moms that don’t want to resort to trickery. For example, there’s a great drink from Bio-K that provides a delicious alternative to kids that require the health benefits of probiotics but balk at the zing of whey. Compared to the sugary, carbonated alternatives, which provide virtually no health benefits at all, this is a much better option. Not only is it delicious, but you’re instilling within your children the importance of healthy drinking habits without forcing or tricking them into drinking something that they don’t like. If they like it, they’ll drink it, and that’s what we want. On top of that, consuming probiotic products regularly helps to prevent colds and flues. If there are kids around, there’s sure to be a bug or two.
We all know it’s easier to grab a soda from the vending machine than to hunt down a healthier alternative. Our kids will eventually discover this, as well. We not only want our kids to enjoy and participate in a healthy drinking diet, but to take that knowledge and love for their bodies into their adult lives. If we introduce tasty, healthy alternatives early on, then we can rest assured that they’ll make good choices on their own.
