How Your Attitude is Everything!

June 23rd, 2010 · 3 Comments

How I challenge myself daily in Cross Fit should be an indicator of my daily attitude, and yet. And, yet….Some workouts are so hard that you question your ability to survive it.  And, then there are days when it’s just your brain that is slowing you down. Just your mind, not your body.  You tell yourself, I can’t do that!  And, then the downward spiral begins with the negative attitude…”I can’t go that hard two days in a row!, How is my body going to tolerate going that hard with so few days off, etc…”

This morning’s workout was really simple: “Nancy”.  Run 400 meters, Complete 15 Overhead Squats at 65 pounds.  Do that for five rounds and you’re done.  Overhead Squats look like this.. although, mine are not that great.  {My butt needs to go below parallel and I could use some more flexibility in my arms.}

Anyways, I was completely unsure if I could even do 5 rounds at 65 pounds- never having done it before! And, knowing how weak my overhead squats are…blah blah blah… You don’t need to hear my negative chatter anymore than I do! Bottom line, change your attitude for success and you will be successful. My favorite fit mom, workout buddy, Penny, reminded me to keep my “eyes on the prize” and focus on the smallest of goals. #1 Don’t put the weight down for the entire set of 15! That was the best advice I’ve been given in a long time. And, I did it- except for one fall on my butt, I made it through each and every round without putting the weight down! Wow. For sure, something to feel good about.

So, here’s my “two cents” for Wednesday. Pick a small, accomplishable goal and go do it!

    This is so true. As mom of 1.5 yr old, I didn’t exercise at all for 2 years, and just recently started running again. I started out just happy to run at all, then at 3x a week. And yesterday just finished 5.7 miles, my personal best. :)

    Thanks for your blog, helps to keep me going. I also keep tab of what I do on a Web site I founded, Yana. I’d love to get your feedback if you have a moment. The idea is to make it easy for people to track progress towards goals like ‘Exercise more’, ‘Sleep Better’, ‘Increase productivity’ and get support from others with the same goal.

    You can check it out at http://yana.com/users/new?rid=123123 . (It’s in private beta, but this code should allow you to check it out.)

    Thanks again. Email me if you have any questions.

    Great – my goal write now is to achieve at least one kipping pull up. Then I’ll move to muscle ups :)
