Product Review: Neocell’s Collagen Sport Recovery Protein Powder

June 10th, 2010 · 1 Comment

On the subject of protein powders, here’s one to consider: Neocell’s Collagen Sport Recovery Protein Powder. I was originally intrigued by this powder because the subject line of the email was about recovery from exercise. For the amount of exercise I get and the soreness factor {I am always sore}, recovery is seriously important. The internet is clogged with information on how to recover from exercise and which protein powders work best for which situation, etc…  Neocell is one of the first companies to combine collagen and protein powder in a nutritional supplement.   Neocell’s Collagen Sport Recovery Protein powder has 30 grams of protein, 0 grams of carbohydrate and 0 grams of fat! For those of us on the zone diet, this is an incredible opportunity to really focus on getting quality protein and at the same time, eat complete carbohydrate blocks from fruits and vegetables…

So, with that in mind, here’s what we found out after using the protein powder for several weeks. Written by a fellow crossfitter, Angie.

“I drink the collagen protein with 8oz of water right after a major workout. Sometimes I’ll eat a banana with it because these things carry well in my bag. Several times I’ve used the protein as a night time snack for extra recovery. I find the taste to be pretty good and the texture is smooth, it mixes very well. I’ve tested this product for two weeks and found that even though my muscles were still sore from the big workouts I was doing, they weren’t as sore. In addition to the “quicker” muscle recovery, the protein powder is an amazingly delicious and satiating meal when mixed with carbs (banana) and fats (peanut butter). I’ll continue to use to see what other benefits it provides.”

The product’s key ingredients include:

  • Whey protein to fuel muscle growth, increase amino acid levels and help the body recover from workouts
  • Collagen to maintain strength and flexibility of ligaments, bones, joints, tendons, muscles and blood vessels
  • L-Glutamine to replenish amino acids depleted during exercise
  • L-Lysine to support the immune system and produce collagen
  • Pomegranate to provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits
  • 20 types of vitamins, minerals and amino acids

Neocell’s Sport Collagen will be available in July and if you’re interested in learning more about click here.

The protein powder seems to be high quality, but it is best to mix it with a juice or eat food containing carbohydrate with it. The carbohydrate can be metabolized and replace the glycogen used when you exercise. This will help you to exercise sooner, longer, and harder!
