Make Yourself a Priority in Your Own Life!

March 21st, 2010 · 2 Comments

This may come as a shock to you, but, I love Cross Fit.  It is “my thing” right now.  It is one hour of my day, five days a week.  I would consider it my personal time for Rachel- and no one else.  The rest of the days, I am a mommy, a teacher, a wife, a chef, a laundress, and a blogger (in my spare time, lol!!).  Last year, I was all about my Yoga Works teacher training, trail running and a few bike races thrown in for good measure.  In 2008, I was all about marathon training.  In 2007, I was still breast feeding but was running a few times a week and going to spin classes.  The bottom line is that I’ve always had something that was my own.  My husband is a bike racer.  It is his thing.  It does take time away from the family, but, it makes him happy for the most part.  I am happy with Cross Fit.

So, what’s my point?

I want to encourage all of you to have YOUR THING- that you love and do it everyday.  I’ve meet so many wonderful women who spend their days doing everything that I do and then there is nothing left for them.  Quit hiding behind all that stuff that ” you have to do” and do something for yourself!!!  I don’t care if it’s needlepoint, reading, weight lifting, or taking guitar lessons, the point is that you have to have something that is YOURS.  You claim it, it’s your passion, so you carve time out of your day to do that one thing that makes you happy.

I will end my rant with a cheesy quote that has stuck with me for ever- from Dr. Laura, “Now, go take on the day!”

i love this post. just happened upon your blog because i’m thinking of starting my own fitness blog/journal myself. you’re so right… you have to find your “thing.” i think i may have seen that on a “Little Bill” episode that my 5 yo daughter watched one day. My thing? I ride horses… I find my center when I’m in the saddle, even if it may be a particularly tough ride (fell off yesterday). My other thing? Working out daily (unless I’ve fallen and am sore). Anyway, you are SOOO right about finding something that motivates you. It helps me be a much happier, more patient, mom, laundress, chauffeur, chef, etc.
