Sambazon Returns for a Giveaway!

November 22nd, 2009 · 59 Comments

In May of 2008, I wrote my first post about Sambazon here.  At the time, I was excited to find Sambazon available in smoothie packs for $6 that yields upwards of 8 smoothie servings.  Nowadays, I can find Sambazon juices at Vons for $3.50 a bottle and was excited last year to be given Sambazon at the end of San Diego’s Finest City Half Marathon.   The kind folks at Sambazon recently sent my family a few bottles of each of their new flavors, Pomegranate Synergy and Rainforest Immunity.    My husband and youngest son loved the juices and can drink a whole bottle without blinking an eye!   And, he is a big advocate for repurchasing weekly! I definitely enjoy Sambazon after big hard efforts, as a special treat, or as part of a smoothie made at home using the smoothie packs.

Sambazon has offered to give one of you an opportunity to try 12 Sambazon Juices and a t-shirt simply for checking their website (affiliate link) and coming back here and leaving a comment on what you learned!

Extra entries can be earned for “friending” them on facebook or twitter. Simply leave a second comment that you did. Winner will be drawn at Random on Wednesday, November 27th at 9AM PST (and announced here).

I learned that the locals can earn more harvesting Açaí than clear-cutting the forest and Sambazon is helping them do that.

I learned Acai berries are 98 percent seed and lose most of their nutritional value after 24 hours after being harvested.

And that they harvest the berries and immediately have the pulp scraped off the seeds into a puree. The puree is then flash pasteurized (required by law) and quick frozen into the smoothie packs or bulk drums to be used for the RTD Smoothies.

Anthocyanins are a group of phytochemicals in red wine thought to contribute to the French paradox, i.e. France has one of the lowest incidences of heart disease of any westernized society despite a prevalence of smoking and a diet high in saturated fat and cholesterol (5). Açaí pulp contains 10 times the anthocyanins of red wine per equal volume (1).

I have heard of the acai but I have never tried it. Also I would love to try because I am looking for more ways to put whole foods into my diet and this would be a quit easy way. I normally use Body Balance as a supplemental nutrient but I would love to try other things. Also the antioxidents would be good to hopefully keep me from getting sick – with one preschooler and both kids in daycare they bring everything home and give it to me!
