A big shout out to Miz today for letting me know that there is such a thing as “Face Your Fears Today” and it’s today, October 13th. Wow. How appropriate for me, as I posted yesterday, that I was scared out of my mind letting my kid ride his own bike to the park.
Tell me I’m not the only one in the world who is scared of stuff? If I were to be completely honest, I am scared of a lot of things- nothing particular to the ones listed, but, still completely relevant to our lives today.
1. Fear that I am not a good teacher.
2. Fear that my children will become hurt in someway.
3.. Fear that I will enter another marathon and completely commit myself only to find out that I am or will become injured and won’t complete the goal.
Other fears include the bike thing (link, link).
Who wants to TORCH their fears? Who wants to EAT their fears? Who wants to completely turn their thoughts around and live a more positive full-filling life? I do.
I love the list of how to “Fight Your Fears” as I’ve copied it completely here.
1. Devour Your Fear
Spell out your fear in your favorite bite-sized food (peanuts, M&Ms, Skittles, peas, etc.) and then eat your fear. See? That wasnt’ so bad.
2. Torch Your Fear – Write down your fear(s) on a sheet of paper. Then, hold it over your outdoor grill and burn it up. Poof! It’s gone. And just as easily you can begin to make your fear(s) disappear.
3. Cut Your Fear to Shreds
Similar to above, write down your fear(s) on a piece of paper. In case you suffer from pyrophobia (fear of fire), simply cut your fear up into a million pieces and boldly toss the pieces into your trash can.
4. Fight Your Fear with a Friend – The African proverb “it takes a village” doesn’t just apply to childrearing. Overcoming your fear(s) may take the help of a supportive friend. Why not invite a trusted friend to lunch, discuss your fear with him/her and then together map out a strategy to get past it.
5. Take Baby Steps
Patience. We all want microwave results, but we live in a crockpot world. Prepare yourself mentally to look for and accept even minor victories as you begin to confront your fears. Small steps are just as good as giant leaps. And don’t be afraid to share your success with others.
6. Get In The Mood
Sometimes you need a little extra encouragement to stand up to the things that are holding you back. A great way to psych yourself up is to listen to upbeat positive music, watch movies about others who have triumphed over the obstacles in their lives or simply talk to someone who has already been where you want to go. Click here for a list of songs and movies that are sure to get you in the groove.
7. Pray Through Your Fear
People have been doing this since there have been people on the planet. “Discuss” your fear(s) with your Creator and dial into some supernatural power to help you face your fear.
8. Add Your Fear Fighting Idea to the List
Visit www.FaceYourFearsToday.blogspot.com to post your ideas.
I invite you to share about your fears. I did. And, it wasn’t easy.
