Ontario Circuit Race (1.2 mile course)
Women’s 3/4 Race
Pictured above is the start of the women’s race on Sunday. Huge field. More than 30 women. Yikes! But, I am on the front here. {From left in red with white helmet}. This race was a battle for wheels and placings. My personal goal was to stay at the FRONT. Out of the wind, but in the front. And, I can say I did that for most of the race. I also wanted to be in the front in the last lap. And, I was, except, I was all. the. way. in . the . front. With two turns to go and at least a quarter of a mile, I was in the front too soon and in the wind. Thinking that I couldn’t sustain my hard effort all the way to the line, I instead jumped in front of my teammate and dragged her to the corner who then sprinted with the rest of the field.
Lessons learned are many…
*Successful bike racing takes practice.
*Big fields are great opportunities to work on bike handling skills.
*Attacks are many, but, most don’t stick.
*What you say to yourself is KEY.
*Fitness is the least important factor- it’s more to have skill and position.
*NEVER NEVER GIVE UP.
P.S. Phots swiped off Facebook! Thanks to whoever was taking these.
