Got lower back pain? It’s most likely caused by weak abdominal muscles. Yes, that is me. 3+ months of yoga has left very little time or motivation to do anything else and although we “engage” our abs during yoga, we are not always directly working them. I need to be working them. Raise your hands if you’ve done any ab work in the last week?
Here are TEN ways to work your abs, strengthen your core and (hopefully) keep yourself out of back pain. {Questions about any of these, leave a comment and I’ll explain)
1. Spinal Twist
2. Spinal Twist variation with legs straight
3. Boat Pose
4. Dolphin Plank
5. Side Plank
6. Ab Roller
7. Curls with legs in butterfly position
8. Crane Pose
9. On stomach, work the lower back with sets of Cobra pose and Alternating Supermans
10. Stability Ball Crunches
There are thousands of ways to work your core, the important thing is to have it in your weekly line-up of workout time.
What is your priority for workouts? Is it cardio? Is it weights? Is it swimming? Core work needs to be an essential part of any training program.

I’ve definitely been neglecting my core.. well – I’ve been slacking off on my whole workout lately – but that’s another thing all-together.
Sitting in a chair alllll day long has really messed up my posture.
I think I’m going to give this a try – sitting on a stability ball some during the day, and try to work up the amount of time as I go along.
