So, you have an hour with no kids, what do you do? Laundry, dishes, cook, read, chill out on the computer, etc.??? I don’t. At least not now. I take the opportunity to squeeze in as much exercise as possible, although, it looks a lot different than it used to. Any strength work I do is more like yoga than with heavy weights and my cardio training is just plain LOW.
Warm-up:
3 sets of medicine ball squats
followed by sets of a flow sequence going from Plank to Chaturanga back up to Plank to Down Dog (Oh My Gosh, these KILL)
followed by side plank to down dog to side plank
Work:
30 minutes on bike with intervals getting up into the 150′s (don’t laugh!!!, 150 used to be my aerobic zone now it is my interval zone since I haven’t been on my bike in almost 4 months)
Cool Down:
YOGA. Flow. (Random and not in order)
Warrior 1
Warrior 2
Warrior 3
Chair Pose (with twists)
High Lunges with twists
Crane
What do I feel like at the end of the day?
Great. Mildly tired, but, great. I have found that now that yoga is “in my body”, I must continue to do yoga for a happy back. I can’t put my finger on what is happening on a daily basis in my back {my lumbar spine has general pain}, but, geez, by the end of the day, I better be doing some kind of yoga or I will be in pain by the morning. Also, I should add that when given an hour now, I’d rather be doing yoga than anything else! (note to self: must cut down chocolate consumption!)
If you have only one hour for exercise, how would you spend it?

30 minute run
20 minutes weights (depends on the day)
10 minutes abs & stretching/yoga poses
I usually drop my toddler off for an hour at the gym’s childcare, so that’s what my “normal” gym workout looks like.
But I also love to swim for 45 and do some water exercises – it’s a fun, great workout!

lately I’ve been taking classes at the gym, although I have been neglecting stretching. I totally agree, there is something about yoga that just makes you feel so “right”!
