This weekend’s theme was twists and backbends! Can I just say, Amazing?! When the teacher is really good, I I am totally in tune with my body. Even if my body isn’t “there” yet, I am loving it. In my mind, I was saying “YES”, “YES”, “YES”. I can do it. This is fun. I love it. Very likely not very yoga like but heh, I am learning. Next week is our first Pranayama practice and all the students in the class were cheering. Ideas on what it is? No idea, personally! Admitting my ignorance is a good thing.
Want to know a little secret? Hammer Nutrition. You guys are gonna laugh at me, but, I am treating my two hour intense yoga session as it were a long run and I fuel myself like I’m on a long run. That means I am drinking HEED during the session and Recoverrite after the session to prevent muscle soreness. Yes, I know I am not in an endurance event at the moment, but, 2 hours, is 2 hours. My teacher says cramping is good! Cramping means you are waking up your muscles and they are saying hello. With the HEED, I managed to NOT cramp until the last hour of the days session when in Locust pose- my calf cramped.
And, Yes, I needed to do some hard interval work on my bike this morning just to shake out some frustration/anxiety/aggression before going to class. Intervals feel really good to me for some reason.
In closing, the sequence in this months issue of Yoga Journal is very similar to the poses that we did in the twisting sequence this weekend except there is one little error. Anybody know what it is? Page 64 (pose number 3) is not correct. I know this cause I was attempting to demonstrate it a few weeks ago! (link) It’s an incredibly difficult pose.
How many of you have had music on when doing yoga? Below is a lovely song by Ziggy suggested by the authors of the rhythm and pose sequence. Love it.
ps. am working on some demos for you but must buy block first!! Can’t demonstrate incorrect alignment. Learned some amazing things this weekend.

That’s awesome that you use Hammer products during yoga… I wouldn’t have immediately thought of that, but it makes sense!
Great song, I love switching up music for yoga practice. A long time ago I went to a class a few times where the teacher played rock music, it was kind of a fun change. Sometimes I want/need to “zen” out, but other times it kind of helped to focus in and keep the necessary strength for a pose.

that’s a great idea, never thought to do it to music either, but could definitely picture it to this Ziggy tune!

My essential playlist has some of the Marley family on it (Bob, Stephen, Damien) but I should add some Ziggy. I love upbeat punjabi music and some hip hop, followed by some great indie cool down songs. Thanks for the idea!
