Last weekend, I had the most amazing yoga class ever. Two complete hours of yoga. The poses weren’t new to me, but, it was how it was taught that made the difference. My teacher made each pose as complicated as possible- starting with the most basic pose- Tadasana or Mountain Pose. We all know this one- it looks like this:
Image: Yoga Journal.
Amazingly, there should be TONS of activity going on with your inner thighs. They need to pull back. Your legs and ankles should be tightly together. Your quads should be lifting your knee caps UP. Crazy. Anyway, the funny thing is how she taught us the concept of pulling your inner thighs backwards. She used these:

We were instructed to wrap one strap around each inner quad- all the way in our groin. Then have the ends of the straps behind us which we pulled away from us. Essentially, teaching you about your inner quads and with a little resistance, we could feel the difference and how yoga should involve ALL of YOUR muscles!
On to the clothing requirements:
1. No pants. At all. Because Yoga Works places a huge emphasis on alignment, it is not recommended that we wear pants. The teachers want to see my knees and ankles to check for appropriate placement in each pose. In addition, when they ask that our heels be lined up – we better be able to see them!
This leads me to…
Organic Cotton Yoga Clothing by BECKONS
I am always thankful and excited to feature organic cotton products that are designed by smart women business owners and Beckons is no different. They generously allowed me to try both their skirt and strength tee for my yoga practice. And, as luck would have it- because of my training and the rules, I was wearing this skirt, when asked to put two D-ring straps in my groin! Crazy, but the shorts underneath are long enough for modesty, are incredibly soft and I love the strips on the shorts- makes them kind of zany. The skirt on top is a super cute A-line skirt with a flat waistband. The skort is a good length too- mid quad area. I seriously love the cut, color and style of this skirt (skort). I would not however plan to use this one as a running skirt- it’s simply an around the town or yoga skirt. If I could change one thing, I’d add some gripping kind of elastic in the legs so that they are not allowed to ride up. I have the Strength Tee pictured on the top left and I love that as well. I loved the fit and feel of the shirt and I wear it all the time. As always with products like these, I’m always back at the website, shopping!
I love all the BECKONS products and am loving my Yoga Teacher Training!

I’m glad teacher training is going well! Tadasana, when done right, is a really hard pose. I get into it with m upper el students and they look/feel like they are about to fall forward. I’ve also checked alignment with my heels against a wall. We should get together for some yoga time- I want to hear all about training!
Also- I want to purchase that skirt w/ shorts- it looks amazing for practice. The right clothes do wonders!
