Getting stronger!

January 17th, 2009 · 8 Comments

YES!

I have finally come to the realization that if I am excited to do something- such as a workout, I am more likely to go hard and have fun than if I feel it’s going to be a “slog”. This is a good motivational/mood shift that would work for anybody. If you can find things you are excited to do then it is more likely to get done. I started off my week with a 45 minute trail run in a new park- and I got lost a few times and did tons of hills both up and down, but I had a BLAST running in the dirt. On Wednesday, I had the lucky job of escorting 7 of my fifth year students on a 20 mile bike ride (only in a private school would this happen!). This was an epic distance ride for some of my boys who were riding BMX bikes! They did awesome.  And I rode my nubby tire mountain bike because I knew the types of bikes my kids were going to be riding. This was hard even for me!

In addition to the above, I just finished week three of the “Fat Blasting Boot Camp” workout number #1 written by Angie Schumacher.

The first two weeks were gravy compared to this week.  Today, I read the workout and thought, “I can’t do that!!” but so far, I have been able to do it! Angie’s workouts are structured to include four strength training moves, three cardio moves and three ab moves and are designed to be finished in thirty minutes (more like 40 for me).  The cool thing about the workouts is that you can keep the structure as is- but up the repetitions, sets, or amount of weight to lift, if you feel it’s not enough.

There are a few exercises that I am just not coordinated enough to do yet such as a forward lunge with a twist or diagonal lunges with curls- but, I will continue to work on it. So what am I so excited about? The fact that I can do 4 sets of 10 Push-ups using a Medicine Ball.  This is harder than it looks!  The hardest part for me is remembering to BREATHE!

What’s on your workout agenda this week?  Did you master a new exercise, routine or new distance? Share!  Would love to hear how you all are getting your workouts in.

    Very awesome!

Doing something you enjoy does make sticking with it so much more likely…

After a couple of weeks off, I did barbell squats yesterday…my legs are screaming at me today!

Good job! I love boot camp workouts, and pushups are always hard. I’ve never tried them with a medicine ball, I will have to do that.
