Yes, I am a mommy. Of two. Absolutely crazy boys who need massive attention, supervision, attention to details at all times. There are days like today when things just don’t go right. Felt like I was talking to myself all afternoon. No, you can’t use a knife to cut holes in the box! Yes, the bread machine is cooking…but I don’t hear anything…yes, but it’s cookinggggggggggggg. Yikes. What a day. Some of you maybe be wondering when and how I get my workouts or how I might “squeeze” out a little more exercise for myself…
It’s on the calender. First thing in the morning. Most days I am excited to get up and workout. Lately, it’s been even more exciting because three days per week I am doing high intensity boot camp exercises which are a blast. I like to get my workout in before anybody is up! It helps my mental attitude tremendously if I know I’ve done my “work” for the day.
Bath time: This is a great time in which I use to squeeze in an extra 100 sit-ups with my various fitness “toys” such as the kettlebell or the medicine ball or the AB WHEEL- 10 repetitions with that thing and you will be SORE. It’s an oldie but goodie and my husband uses it too!
Outside Playtime: Grabbing my pitchfork and shovel the compost pile around. Dig up weeds, Dig. 15 minutes of shoveling gets my heart rate up, and I’m sure those of you with snow will say the same thing.
At school: (ok, this is cheating, I suppose) but I always exercise with my students. How many high five push-ups, incline push-ups and jump rope demonstrations I do in one day is nobody’s guess. But, it’s just a little extra activity that I am purposeful about getting.
I’m a bit of a diehard fitness nut, did you guess that? Do you try and squeeze in a little extra throughout your day???

Hi Rachel,
You’re awesome – squeezing some fitness work in wherever you can — I love it! (and I feel like a slacker next to you!!) (hey, maybe that’s just the motivation I need…)

Believer in mornings too. The bare minimum for how many times you want to work out each week should correspond to the number of morning workouts you can do because early morning workouts are the only guaranteed workout when you’re a mommy.

This is probably too much information, but I do leg lifts and squats when I brush my teeth. Nice image, isn’t it?

I really don’t try to fit in extra exercise but since we only have one car that means I ride my bike to and from work every day and if I run errands at work or after work I am on my bike.

Hi Rachel!
How in the world do you do sit-ups during bath time? Is your bathroom carpeted? Ours is tile and that seems like a painful “place” to do sit-ups. I’d love to hear how it works for you.
