“Diets don’t work..”

January 10th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Here’s some good reading from a favorite blogger, Leslie Goldman, who was recently published in Runner’s World.

Topic: Weight Training: setting realistic resolutions can help you shed pounds for the long run

“According to a July 2008 New England Journal of Medicine study set out to find out whether a low-carb, low-fat, or Mediterranean diet worked best, and concluded that none were particularly effective.” HA! Something we’ve all been learning all along. Make lifestyle changes and you will lose weight. (link)

What is a Spiderman Climb?

Just for MamaSweat and any other curious readers, here is the Spiderman Climb demonstrated by Craig Ballayntine. It is fairly challenging, but my students seem to thrive on it. We do intervals of like 15 seconds. Today, I added the song “Move It, Move It” from Madagascar and they worked EVEN HARDER!

FREE 10KM RUNNING PLAN WITH YOGA

Finally, if you are a runner, I urge you to check out this plan by Sage Rountree. It’s a 10km running plan that incoporates daily yoga routines. Sage has written a two month plan that builds you up from a 5km to a 10km. There are three core workouts each week along with yoga and or cross training on your off days.

Your title “drew me in.” I’m a big believer in healthy eating and regular exercise as the best and safest route to fitness and weight loss. Diets may work for the short-term, but they are ineffective (and actually can be harmful) in the long run.

I use Sage’s podcasts after every run. For some reason, I have settled on the Lunge series.. I don’t seem to do the others as much.

Oh thanks for the video!! Great idea with “Move It”–my girls LOVE that song. I tested the spidey climb–excellent. Did not attempt the spidey push up (afraid I’ll fall on my heavy belly:-)
