Squat, Mountain Climber, Spiderman Climb: What’s that?

January 7th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Teaching fun things to my students this week like Burpees, Spiderman Climb, Mountain Climbers, and Squats and they love it. Think the names of the activities are 50% of the fun. Even my little ones were laughing the entire class and had a blast doing the “spiderman climb”!

Closing the class today, I was making a feeble attempt to explain WHY they should “buy” into my fitness plan for them.

1. Makes them stronger for kicking

2. Strong legs will keep them on their horses

3. Shoot farther

4. Ski longer

And one precious girl from the Netherlands came up to me and said what about music? Doesn’t learning an instrument- such as the violin, flute, and cello – require fitness/strength activities? I said, no, thinking about ball skills, gymnastics, swimming, etc. What does learning an instrument have to do with physical education? She said, “breathing”! DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHRACHEL!!

My students teach me something every single day. Now, if only I could teach them a thing or two and about the WHY’s of things!

Kids are so smart, aren’t they?

On another note, Mountain Climbers kills me.

Funny how we need these reminders about how kids are here to teach us too. Love what you’re doing. Now, I know all those moves except the Spiderman. Do share. I have a daughter who loves Spidey…
