1. Improve my skills as a runner so that I may complete a marathon with a Boston Qualifying time of 345 or faster. The running must be complemented by cross training that will improve my overall strength and flexibility.
2. Banish the LAST of the body fat.
3. Become certified to teach group fitness classes in my community. This will require an ACE certification, YogaFit Level 1 Certification and hopefully a Kettlebell certification (still working on the details).
4. Make a plan to play outdoors with my children for one hour a day. And introduce fitness techniques to them such as a push-up.
5. Pie in the Sky goal to write for Athleta Chi. ACHIEVED (link)
6. In July 2009, I am planning on being fit enough to run with Sally Bergesen when we visit Seattle!
THE SMALL ONES
Run a snow shoe race (Feb. 2009) NO SNOW
Complete a 6-8 week Kettlebell program
Complete 3-5 Bike Races just for fun Upgrade to Category 3 by the end of the summer.
Develop techniques to have a positive mental attitude. Stop the negative mental chatter that leads me down nasty roads that are counterproductive and unhealthy.
THE PLAN:
I’m excited to say that I will spend the first six months of the year, trying NEW and DIFFERENT things- such as workout programs, bike racing, trail running, snow shoe racing and losing the last of the body fat. As for the running, I am going to start interval training in a few weeks but only increase my mileage to six miles. No marathon training for six months- but train for smaller races to make sure my body stays healthy. (Probably being overly cautious but–injuries suck, and I’m not ready or willing to start training for a big marathon yet).
CHEERS TO ALL OF YOU!
And, Happy New Year…see you next year to start working on those goals.

Hi Rachel,
Best of luck with all of these goals! One thing I do with my older son is fitness challenges (push ups and pull ups so far). It’s a fun way for us to both work on fitness together – well, fun…as long as I don’t mind losing to him…every time! It’s all good, though! And something we have to hang on to – greater than just the fitness aspect of it all…

I love the one were you are going to play with the kids outside for an hour everyday. It is hard this time of the year with it getting so dark. Mikayal gets alot of playtime with preschool and daycare but on the weekends I make sure she gets outside for play time or walks or whatever.
