Your life in front of you

December 30th, 2008 · 6 Comments

As 2008 comes to a close, I’ve come to realize how much I’ve learned this year. On the About Fit Mommy page, I listed all my 2008 goals that included bike racing, running races, triathlon and of course the marathon. The big deal was the marathon and looking back it may have become larger and more dominating of my life than I’d have liked. My original goal was to run under 4 hours and I did that, however, the “Pie in the Sky” goal is still out there to be obtained one day.
Except that in the last few days, between family visits, Christmas dinners, the time I’ve had to spend on writing my goals has been more about the rest of my life not just next year. Yes, I still have running goals, but my focus has been more on how I can earn an income doing something I love. Yes, if you’re wondering, I am employed as a physical education teacher on a very part time basis. The favorite parts of the job for me is the creation of the activities and the research in finding the activities and playing, laughing with the children but yet it can also be boring (started teaching in 1996, ok?). Most of the time, I feel like I’m just spinning my wheels- not really going in a direction that excites me. So, this leads me to questions like:

What do you want to do with the rest of your life?

What would get me excited to want to go to work in the morning?

A spin class that I am teaching, or a yoga class that I am leading, or even a boot camp class offered at the gym. (I am the BIGGEST critic when it comes to how a class is taught) That way, I can get the workout that I am craving and still get paid! Yet, I know that fitness instructors don’t really make huge buckets of money, but, I am not the main breadwinner in our house. Thank God and thank you hubby! I am the grocery/vacation/incidentals money. I also love this blog. I love writing, researching and sharing what I’ve learned here with you. I am no expert, but, I am here to absorb it all. Reading your blogs, I always learn new things from you or get inspired by you to try new things: oatmeal with egg whites cooked in or a kettlebell workout or making oats with pumpkin. It’s all kind of curious to me. But, again, this blog is not a source of income for me. It is a labor of love!

At a CrossRoad and Need a Plan of Attack? Here are some ways that I will use to achieve my goals.

1. I have written down each and every goal-some huge ones, some smaller ones and am in the process of creating a goal book with photos, dates and details.

2. Pick the two biggest ones that are screaming my name and create a plan to achieve them in 2009.

3. Start to tell people of my goals for 2009 and gather a cheering section.

4. Create a plan in tiny details that could be worked on daily- such as in fifteen minute increments.

5. Put your head down and get busy. You will feel more productive and full of life when you know you are headed in the direction of your dreams.

What is on your agenda for 2009 and do you have a plan on how to achieve it? Would love to hear your thoughts?

    Hi Rachel,
I’m planning on 2009 being the best year ever!

I like your plan – creating a plan, and telling others about it will help big time in taking you in the direction you’re desiring to go. I wish you well, and much success in making it all happen Rachel! I know you can!

Me…I’m going to use one word to define my upcoming year (I’m still working on choosing that word). I’ll then really work to make this one word manifest itself in my life. I’m excited about the possibilities of this!

Those are some great, thought proviking goals. (I know I miss-spelled that.) I have a job and really is going no where. I am a legal secretary. I am planning on going back to school (very part time) in the fall of 2009 so I can become a nurse. I have to get some prerequists in first and that is the part time. But at least I will see a new job in the next 4 to 5 years and something that I think I will love.

I will definitely cheer you on in your goals. I would love to become a yoga instructor and become an RRCA certified coach. I just would like to find more ways to incorporate fitness into my day-to-day routine and have it come my job more than my current full-time job allows. However, I’m not sure if those goals will come to fruition this year. Right now I’m just trying to convince myself that my goals for 2009 should be to treat my body & soul kindly and go with the flow, see what happens over the next few months. ;-)
