Have you worked your brain today? Seems it needs a workout too!

November 3rd, 2008 · 37 Comments

Did you know that after age 30, our memory will start to lose it’s ability to retain information? I can recall my grandmother at age 90 still working cross word puzzles because she’d tell me it’s good for her brain. “You have to use it our lose it!” Same reason why some people chose to learn a new language as an adult. I can also tell you that after having two babies, my ability to focus and remember details has gone in the toilet! Ever heard of the words “mommy brain?” particularly right after having a baby, I swear, I couldn’t remember my own birthday! Or, ever get to a store and can’t remember why you went there in the first place? This is all due to memory and attention!

Want the good news? You can IMPROVE your memory and attention by specifically doing exercises to improve them.

Have you ever heard of Lumosity? Brain fitness is not something I would have google searched!

For the purposes of review, I was given a thirty session demo trial of Lumosity. So far, I’ve managed to work through ten sessions. My husband tried it too! Each session builds on the next. One exercise include spotting a bird in a grove of trees while at the same time see a letter that pops in a box in the center of the screen. These activities were challenging! In another one, I had to add, subtract, multiply or divide in a number of seconds (a bubble was falling) and the bubbles kept falling faster! It is designed to be used 20 minutes a day to improve memory and attention. And, to be honest, I’ve only had time to work on it on the weekends. It is something, that, once you get started, it’s hard to stop. Mainly because you feel like you could always do it better! My husband loved it. He wouldn’t move to the next game till he got into the excellent level scoring position. On another interesting note, you might be aware that musical training can lead to improved brain function?

Here’s some facts from the website:

Lumosity users have experienced:

  • Clearer and quicker thinking
  • Improved memory for names, numbers, directions, etc.
  • Increased alertness and awareness
  • Elevated mood
  • Better concentration at work or while driving

Lumosity has been recognized by the LA Times, PC Magazine and the London Times as the most popular brain training program!

You can do a free trial right now, if you want! Click on over and give it a try. And I have one demo program for one of you! Winner will receive a 30 session demo package simply for posting a comment here! So, don’t you want to improve your memory and attention in just 20 minutes a day? Winner will be picked at Random on Friday, November 7th, 2008 at 9pm PST.

Ooooh, I love these sorts of things! My brain could use some non-school-related exercise (let’s face it, school isn’t always working my THINKING brain so much as my AVOIDANCE brain).

I checked out this site and really enjoyed it. I tried the bird game but I was too distracted by the scenery! I kept imagining running down the trail.

I read somewhere that you start losing your memory at age 27 which I just turned. So, I could really use a memory booster! lol

  • 28 Ruthann Rhodes // Nov 7, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Would love to win this. While my memory isn’t as great as it once was I do still try to ‘excercise’ my brain regularly with word puzzles etc so this would be wonderful. Thanks

Thanks for sharing such a useful software. I am sure readers of the blog would like know more about such other programs, designed to improve the mental capabilities. I have been using a software known as “Mind Sparke Brain Fitness Pro” since last 20 days. It works on all the parts of the brain and keeps them healthy and active.

The software has helped me in improving my thinking and memorizing power. I use it for 30-40 minutes everyday and its easy to use. It makes us use our auditory and visual senses together also we are supposed to press keys on the key board at the same time while listening to the person saying alphabets and looking the images coming on the screen. It involves us in multitasking.

The software does not take much time therefore it can be included in our daily schedule. All of us can try using this software, it is really wonderful for mental fitness. I hope the information is of use for all of you.

    Thanks and stay fit…
