Multisport Training Tips (the clothing edition) and a giveaway!

October 28th, 2008 · 39 Comments

Clothing is the fun part of triathlons! You get to go shopping for the cutest, most stylish clothes that will function for all three sports! Since Team Estrogen is the one of the top sellers for all the brands I was going to feature, I wrote to them and asked them for a freebie for you. And there is one, but you’ve got to read all the way to the end.

Shopping for the Race Day Outfit

Chose your favorite. First, let me just say that I am a bit opinionated in this area and I have my likes and dislikes (so please accept my apologies for my bike snobbery).

WHAT NOT TO WEAR ON RACE DAY:

Baggy white t-shirt and frumpy shorts! That white t-shirt freebie that you got at the last race is number one, ugly! Number two, it does not take care of your sweat- instead it just gathers on your skin and in your shirt and you end up looking like you are running in a wet towel. Another no-no, is the IPOD. You absolutely cannot race with an IPOD in a race like this. There is too much going on and we wouldn’t want you to miss hearing directions or a car coming!

WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR ON RACE DAY?

Performance fabrics, colors and designs designed for women. The clothes should fit you and you will need a well fitting bra. Three miles or six miles or however long that run is – is TOO LONG- to have boobies bouncing around. Bouncing boobies leads to sagging and we all want our nipples heading north right? Yes, a new outfit will be expensive, but one outfit is all you NEED! So, here is what you need, a pair of triathlon style shorts and a long bra top. I’m not a fan of the all one piece style triathlon suits, like these as I think they make you look funny. For sure, they are not flattering to any body type. You just look like a blob in gray or black. Team Estrogen is a fantastic resource for all women athletes! They have running, cycling, swimming, triathlon clothing for all sizes and shapes. So, I did some shopping for you and here’s what I think looks fantastic.

TRI-SHORTS:

These are what I wear. They are a bit shorter than a normal cycling short and the chamois is thin and light weight. Work fabulous for triathlons because you can do all three events in them!

Some other stylish options would include these: The pink and yellow shorts are by Skirt Sports and the Gray and pink ones are by TYR. Haven’t tried either pair, so, if you have, maybe you could offer a comment?

LONG BRA TOPS: Black and Pink and Black and Yellow are by Skirt Sports and the Pink one is by TYR.

I have the Velo Bella Jersey which I love and am on their women’s cycling team (you can join too, it’s free), however, the jersey is too hot to run in, so I save it for my regular bikes rides on Sundays. The black/pink and black/yellow are the matching tops to the Skirt Sports tops. The pink floral matches the gray/pink shorts by TYR.

WATER BOTTLE AND A PAIR OF SOCKS TO THE LEADER OF THE LAP!!

Please take a moment and go check out Team Estrogen’s website and come back and post a comment. We’d LOVE to hear your honest opinion of the products and the website. Personally, I think they have everything you might need and then some and the prices are great. Free shipping on anything over $50, gotta love that, right? Winner will be chosen at Random on Sunday, November 2nd at 9PM, PST.

ps. Cycling Socks are the best kind of socks you can buy. I do NOT ever wear any other kind of socks whether I’m running, cycling or doing the laundry.

Hi, it’s me again! As you already know, I and a HUGE TE fan. Sadly, because I live in Canada, online shopping in the US is not cost-effective for me so I have not shopped at TE, however I have many cycling friends who swear by their wonderful selection and prices, and exceptional service.

I am a big Sugoi fan – I have several pairs of Sugoi RS Flex shorts that I swear by for long rides (thick chamois) and I have the Sugoi Fizz Tank and Bra top in several colours – perfect for biking and running in hot weather.

My tri shorts are made by 2XU – not sure if TE sells them or not.

Anyway – two thumbs up for Team Estrogen!

i LOVE the name Team Estrogen and they do indeed have some beautiful stuff – even just scrolling thru the tops, I was salivating. They could probably do something a little more funky with the design/font of the company name but I’m in no way/shape/form an artist or web designer so, ya know, grain of salt.

  • 7 Tiffany // Oct 28, 2008 at 7:23 pm

I want it all. I would love to try a running skirt because they look so cute. I end up running in yoga pants and a top (depends on the weather) but I don’t have anything other than cotton 0 I know bad, bad, bad.

I loved this pint racing skirt http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodSK_3103.html and it is on sale too! They had some very cute jerseys to go with it. Ahh is only I had the money to spend I sure would.

Looks like a great website! I’m going to have to order some of the SockGuy socks…I love the “meow”, “bad kitty” and “yes I am” styles! I recently got my first bike and liked all the articles in the community area about caring for your bike, etc.

I’ve been getting the Team Estrogen newsletter for a few years and I’ve always liked their site – lots of great info for the female athlete and lots of great products! Free shipping is a great deal too – I get catalogs from a lot of sports supply stores and usually you have to spend a lot more on gear to get the free shipping.

I love their clothing but wish I had the body for it. At age 53 I look good but not that good

  • 28 Hesper Fry // Nov 1, 2008 at 10:33 pm

  • 29 runlikeagirl // Nov 2, 2008 at 12:58 am

I love the Team Estrogen website, I have actually been on their mailing list for several years. They carry high-quality merchandise. I have not made a purchase through them just because I am so picky and hard to please when it comes to running clothes that I have to shop in a brick & mortar store and actually try stuff on. I wouldn’t have the patience for multiple online orders and returns, lol. If they carried something I found in a store that I wanted to have more of, I’d certain buy from them!
