Sweet new running shoes!

October 15th, 2008 · 9 Comments

Running shoes are seriously a personal choice.  For me, going to the running center is an outing or a date or  ”yipee”, time to buy new running shoes!  For the last four marathons, I’ve used Asics Gel Cumulus Shoes.  For some reason when at the running center, these shoes have always felt the best.  I tried on like TEN pairs- just not these!!

However, since learning about all my hip issues and possibly an over-pronator problem, I’ve found that I needed to change my shoe to limit my feet from pronating too much.  New brand to me, is New Balance. We runners are loyal.  We know what works and we stick with it.  I bit the bullet and changed brands and to my surprise, I am totally satisfied.  After this last marathon, being picky about running shoes has become a necessity- not a choice.  Asics worked great for me, but, I still had little nagging problems with them.  (Seemed to go flat quickly and were not all that supportive)

My New Balance shoes are incredibly comfortable, well cushioned and really stable.  Fit was a bit tight- be sure to check if you need to size up or not, but, otherwise, a great purchase.

Here are some specs on my new dogs (in my own words)!

*Maximum support

*Serious Cushioning

*Built for high mileage

1. Always consider terrain and the number of miles you plan on running.

2. Be fitted by a shoe specialist and have them watch you run in them to determine the type of runner you are. (Pronator, Supinator, Moderate Runner)  Coach Al also analyzed my running form which helps determine the type of shoe I needed.

3.  Performance- what you plan on doing with them.  If you are a recreational runner running under 20 miles a week you might not need as much cushioning and stability as I do when training for marathons. (Again, totally personal)

New Balance (in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness) also has a complete line of shoes and apparel called Lace up for the Cure.

From the press release:

In 2008, New Balance will maintain its commitment to Komen for the Cure® by donating up to $1 million (with a guaranteed minimum donation of $500,000). The Lace Up for the Cure® retail promotion runs throughout the year with a special focus during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

That’s it.  What is your favorite brand of running shoes? What have you learned about purchasing new shoes?

It is best that you have the perfect triathlon training schedule to be more effective.

It’s hard to beat New Balance. I was not aware of what they were doing with the Komen Foundation, how nice.

I love New Balance too! I’ve definitely learned that even if they didn’t hurt in the store while walking around, if when you get them home and they hurt while you run, GET RID OF THEM.

I have a gait analysis done every 4-6 months. I had been in Adidas Boston Classics for a while, but on my last appointment was put in New Balance 1062s:

I love them, I have never felt more efficient as a runner!

I also love new balance. In fact, the shoes in the picture are the exact ones I’m using now.

Those tennies are cute! I love the pink & silver combination. I almost always go with New Balance or Asics when it comes to running shoe shopping…
