Here’s to new beginnings!

Sorry about photo quality, blame it on the Blackberry!

For the first time ever, we tried rock climbing! Neither my husband or I had ever been to a rock climbing gym and had a blast!! Our instructor, Beth, showed us how to tie the Figure 8 Knot, how to tie in, how to lower each other…but didn’t say anything about the numbers or colors on the wall! In case you are wondering the easiest climbs start at 5.6 and go up from there. We must’ve started on the 5.9 wall cause I could only get half way up and hubby got up once, but that was it. Some other ladies who were working hard on some 5.9 ascents kindly told us about the 5.6 wall! That was a blast. Felt like I was climbing a ladder! Wish we had started on the easy wall- then moved up from there. Honestly, I was a little scared- particularly on the descent when roped in..but I actually felt like I could enjoy it..and maybe even be good at it someday. Interesting in the skills that are involved in rock climbing- it is aerobic but not about arm strength. It’s more about quad and core strength- then arms and hands.

And since we are currently on the topic of new things, we went out for Indian food after that! Can’t believe we’ve gone almost 40 years and not tried Indian food. I was like a kid in a candy store, “let’s try that and that and that!!”" The meats were wonderful, vegetable curry- delicious, even had rice pudding for desert. Loved every minute.

The marathon is over and HERE is a list of possible NEW workouts on the agenda:

*Working my way through Strength for Life weight program

*Lots of trail running

*Return to the Rock Climbing Gym

*Cross Fit workout (offered at same local gym)

*Kick Boxing

*Boxing

*Kettlebell workouts

*Cycling (not new to me..but maybe it’s a good time to switch it up)

*5/10km’s ONLY- still need to run a sub 20 minute 5km.

Any suggestions, tips, comments?

(no, I will NOT jump out of an airplane!!)

Oh, I fantasize about rock climbing some day. Your list looks great–very similar to mine. Just wish I could actually do it all.

Sounds like you had a blast. I’m not sure about the rock climbing thing myself but hubby loves to do it (he climbed the wall at Great America, it was huge!) and my stepson wants the two of them to go real rock climbing yikes.

As for kick boxing, all I can say is be careful. I have been doing Turbo Kick (gym) and Turbo Jam (home) for quite some time and lately had been having knee issues. Just this past weekend the doc told me, no more. I had to get an injection in the knee similar to cortisone and will no longer be able to do my favorite workout ever.

Kettlebell sounds interesting to me and I like spin class.

Trying new things – that’s awesome! The rock climbing looks like so much fun. Our kids have done this for birthday parties, and we’ve not really thought of doing it ourselves – but I think it’s time!

And…I’m looking forward to all the new training you might be getting into – good stuff all around!
