The Battle of the Peanut Butters!

September 28th, 2008 · 9 Comments

I love LOVE love naturally creamy peanut butter. Love it with apples, bananas, tortillas, in my smoothies, in my oatmeal…Anytime. Next to dark chocolate, there is nothing better.

Recently, I was introduced to a new brand of peanut butter made by the company ZAP Products. This product is unique in that they have blended 10 Superfoods into the peanut butter- so the antioxidant value is 1,100 per serving! In each bite, you will get the natural flavor of the butter plus carrot, kale, spinach, beets, blueberries, strawberries…It’s a crazy concept, in my mind, the products that are being created now are amazing. Seriously, I could NOT taste the difference in this peanut butter in comparison to my normal brand of Trader Joe’s PB. My kids didn’t know the difference either. It is definitely a sneaky and creative way to get more veggies in your kids tummy’s without them knowing about it!

If we were to compare the peanut butters by calories and fat, the break down would look like this: (edited to add that has the ZAP products have more antioxidants, vitamins and minerals per serving than either of the other products)

Adam’s Natural PB to Bell Plantation PB2 to ZAP PRODUCTS ANTIOXIDANT PB

per 2 Tablespoons

Calories 210, 54, 190

Fat in grams: 16grams, 1.87 grams, 14 grams

8 grams of Protein, 5.64 grams, 8 grams

6 grams of Carbohydrates, 3.4 grams, 9 grams

Price for the ZAP Products is $15.95 for 4 12 ounce jars, versus $16 for 4 6 ounce jars for the PB2, and I can’t find a price for the Adam’s brand but at Trader Joe’s I spend $4 for one 12 ounce jar. It seems like the price comparison is not important as they are all fairly close in price.

As a mother of two small boys, my vote would be for the ZAP Products. As an athlete, I’d chose the PB2 based on calories and fat alone! However, neither of these products are sold at any stores near me, so online ordering will be an extra step in the process.

What’s your vote? Which peanut butter would you chose?

I LOVE natural peanut butter more! Or, at least I think I do – I eat a lot, probably too much… For me, my favorite is i the store brand at the grocery store near us. Cost is $2.25 for a 16 oz jar. As far as nutritional content, it is very similar to the Adams up above. One reason I like it is because of the price, but more than that, the taste. I love the way it tastes. I keep a jar at work all the time. One of my favorites (besides a spoonful as an afternoon snack) is to add to to either vanilla or strawberry yogurt. Some people in my family think that’s just plain weird, but I love they way it tastes mixed with the yogurt.

Anyway, three cheers for natural PB!!!

You missed the boat. The ZAP Peanut Butter has more antioxidants per serving than spinach or kale!!!! Plus it has 21 vitamins and minerals in trace forms in the vegetable and fruit blend plus the fiber from the natural vegetables and fruits.

Thanks for reminding me that I shouldn’t compare apples to oranges! ZAP does have more antioxidants than either of the other brands.

Why eat regular PB when you can eat ZAP with all the friuts and veggies included. Also when you leave ZAP in the refridgerator it remains spreadable. The ZAP energy bars are also great and also full of antioxidants.
