Dear Running Skirt Makers,

September 21st, 2008 · 6 Comments

I’m in the market for a new running skirt and if I could SQUASH one aspect of all my current running skirts, I’d have a perfect skirt. So, I’d like to discuss this in detail since it’s on my mind. Let me remind you that I’m also a physical education teacher and I’d like to look stylish yet have every opportunity to run, jump, slide, skip, perform push-ups, sit-ups with my students, hit the coffee shop and the track all in the same day in the same outfit. (This post is by NO means negative towards my current favs..just would like to wrap them up into one.)

These are my parameters for a perfect running skirt:

STYLE: I would love some really cute, fun prints with a wide waistband and a slightly A-shaped skirt. It should not hug my butt so that every parent does a double take in the parking lot (not that I don’t want to look good) just not TOO good! Color is KEY. Would like the skirts to get AWAY from black, pink, green and blue. If you’ve seen the Terry Skorts for cycling, I’d like that style taken to the next level for running and other outdoor activities. The Terry skorts are great for bike riding, however, I’ve found that as the day goes on, the legs grip too tight, the waist band is not that convenient, and there is really too much material.

LENGTH: It should NOT be slut girl short! Modest length of at least 14-15 inches long. No booties are going to peek out when doing a toe touch or a leg lunge.

MATERIAL: It’s a running skirt! It should be fun to wear! LIGHT WEIGHT, flowy, flirty, fun. Easily wicks sweat away from the body. Sheila Moon’s cycling apparel definitely has it going on in the material department!

POCKETS: The pockets need to be large enough to hold the Blackberry. There should be at least two pockets in the absolutely perfect compression shorts. Maybe even one small zippered pocket on the back of the skirt just below the waistband..maybe not?

MATCHING TOPS: The tops need to be cut to fit in contrasting fabrics preferably sleeveless in a moisture wicking material. The length should go past the length of the top of the waistband of the skirt.

COMPRESSION SHORTS: The shorts are going to be the deal breaker in my opinion. So far, I’ve found atalanta’s shorts to be the absolute best. They are a thicker material but they don’t ride up but are not too tight either. The also seem to breathe well and yet don’t get soggy at the end of the run.

What did I forget? Does anybody have anything to add or would like to see?
