Boys and their creativeness:

Boy number one: Jumps off dog kennel. “I am a superhero!” onto the dog.

Boy number two: Has a potty accident on the carpet.

Boy number one: Attempts to climb wrought iron fence after swimming for one hour.

Boy number two: Eats graham crackers without incident.

Boy number one: Shoves whole cracker in mouth, yells “shutup” to the dog and proceeds to poke the dog in the eye (on purpose or accident, not sure).

Lovely day we had.

Then, this book arrived in the mail. Totally appropriate to my situation. Boy asks his dog and teddy bear “do you love me?” Dresses himself with one boot, underwear over pants, cowboy hat, pirate eye cover, “do you love me?” “Do you love me when I’m gentle?” “Do you love me when I’m not?”

The story goes on through offering many examples of little boys doing little boy things. Last night, after tucking my kids in bed, I came back to find their entire book shelf emptied out on floor, oldest son is wearing a 2T snow suit, and all the shirts on the floor. “I’m dressed like an astronaut mommy.” The bottom line is do you still love me? Yes, of course, we do. The artwork is wonderful and my kids absolutely GOT IT.

Always is written by Ann Stott and illustrated by Matt Phelan. It’s funny, the illustrator said that the hardest part was remembering what it’s like to be a small boy. He catches the vision of my kids anyway, right on.

That’s the thing about kids. Sometimes they do things that make us scratch our head, sometimes they do things that are very touching and kind, sometimes they do things that just aren’t smart, sometimes they’re just goofy…

    And we ALWAYS love them…

Your kids are lucky to have you as their mother.

aw, how cute about being dressed like an astronaut!

I completely understand, there is never a dull (or quiet!) moment with boys, but they are so worth it. :)

I just have one boy and he’s on the road to finding “himself”. He’s just 19 months old – but it’s never a dull moment with him…. SOmetimes, people ask IF I’m okay when people see us in the mall… And I say “Loving every minute of it!.”
