One Amazing Mama

August 8th, 2008 · 2 Comments

This post was originally published on BookieBoo, however, I wanted to share it with all of you as well.  BookieBoo is a subscription based website for women only to support each other in the areas of fitness and nutrition.

Amy Cotta is a cyclist on Velo Bella currently training for the Iron Girl Triathlon in 2009. She has MULTIPLE coaching/certifications in all areas of sports and fitness which include National Strength and Conditioning Coach, Certified Cycling Coach, and many many more! I am on Velo Bella and that’s how I found about Amy! (FYI- anybody can join Velo Bella! They have the most stylish cycling clothes for women!) So, I emailed her and asked a few questions-and you might be surprised by some of her answers!

What is your current workout routine? How much time do you workout daily? How often do you ride or run?

I currently do cross training. When it comes to weights I do a heavy day (heavy on the leg work and light on the smaller muscle groups), a lighter more sculpting routine and then on my third day I do a timed circuit using my own body weight. (so my weight training days are M/W/F with cardio abs and Rehab days on Tues/Thurs.) I also try to get in some type of cardio everyday; stationary bike, treadmill, rower. After the kids get back into school I plan on making it to the pool twice per week…. at least that’s the goal! As far as cycling, the only time I have been able to get on the bike has been at races! I plan on doing the Iron Girl next year in Vegas for my 40th birthday, so biking is going to become a huge part of my training this fall. Due to my hip and IT band I just started introducing Trigger Point Therapy to my daily routine along with exercises to rehabilitate my pelvic floor, which includes a lot of closed kenetic chain exercises that are performed with sequential movement patterns. I try to do something active everyday. When all else fails I will go run stadium stair or go for a hike at a local trail to get some type of exercise into my day.

Present/Future fitness goals…you got any marathons in your future?

I plan on coming out of retirement and compete in the Bikini America Pageant this November in Las Vegas and then compete in the Iron Girl triathlon in May, also in Vegas. My goal for the Iron Girl is
A) Not to drown…. I suck at swimming and
B) Finishing the race!

I am currently in rehab for a bad hip from a car accident that I was in when I was 7 months pregnant and have chronic IT band syndrome. My goal for the Bikini America is make the top 10 in the open and win the “Masters” division. I want to prove to myself and to other women that having children and becoming a mom doesn’t mean that we have to settle for mediocrity… that we can still have it all and still be sexy! My goal for the Fitness America… is to “COUGER” up the stage…. to show the young girls 40 ROCKS!

As far as nutrition/meal plans/cooking…

I hate to cook! I don’t use protein powder or make smoothies. I believe in making wise choices and eating what I want in moderation.
