Lauren’s Hope

July 31st, 2008 · 152 Comments

Formerly, as a physical educator, I would see over 100 kids a day. HUGE SCHOOL. One class every hour. My lessons always included a muscle of the day, cardio, stretching, skill taught and a game. On a time budget- always moving from one activity to the next. Unless a teacher specifically told me about a child (ADD, diabetes, MS, parental problems), I knew nothing about them. Teachers tell teachers of various problems, illnesses about children but the children themselves DO NOT need to be whispered about in front of class or on the way out the door. Seeing a child with a medical ID bracelet would certainly help clear up any confusion or non-communicated concerns.

So, I was pretty excited to share with you the story of Lauren. She has diabetes but refused to wear the traditional medical ID bracelet. She did not want to STAND out in the crowd. Lauren, however, was willing to wear jewelry. So, this eventually lead to the creation of Lauren’s Hope. A fashionable piece of jewelry that ALSO has the vital information on it.

Each piece of Lauren’s Hope jewelry is crafted with the finest of materials including sterling silver, 14K gold, crystals, pearls, beaded leather and a myriad of stones and charms. Customers can choose a style from the extensive catalog or have a bracelet custom designed. Once a selection has been made, customers then submit their specific medical information, allergies/special needs, and emergency contact info for engraving. In addition to bracelets, Lauren’s Hope now offers necklaces, guitar picks, ankle bracelets, watches and even pet tags! Designs are available for men, women and children.

Lauren’s Hope is proud to donate a portion of their profit to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. To date, Lauren’s Hope has donated over $75,000.

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU.

I like this one! But you can pick any bracelet or neckace you want! They will print the vital information on a tag that attaches to the bracelet or necklace! So, please take a momment and go check out Laurens Hope and post a comment right here on this post. WInner will be chosen at Random.org on August 3rd at 9pm. Retail value is $50.

Edited to add:

Even my husband needs/should be wearing an ID bracelet.  Anybody with any a health concern who exercises or not, should wear an ID bracelet.  Hubby recently had to check himself in the hospital for a bee allergy and now must carry an Epi pen at all times.

My favorite is the Red Mille Fiori bracelet. I have a latex allergy, and I’ve been thinking about getting a medic alert bracelet, but hadn’t gotten around to it. This would be a perfect time to do so.

  • 7 Sharon - MomGenerations // Aug 1, 2008 at 12:52 am

This bracelet is a wonderful idea… beautiful design… perfect, too, for the senior citizen crowd! Both my mom and mom-in-law need medical ID, and both love jewelry!

I am suppose to wear a medical alert bracelet but recently stopped when it broke and now I can’t afford a new one. Winning one of these bracelets would be God sent for sure!

  • 13 Jenn S. // Aug 1, 2008 at 3:01 am

My mother really needs one of these. What a wonderful concept.

  • 14 Kathy Mullins // Aug 1, 2008 at 3:22 am

I like the silver and black bracelet that is pictured on this page. I really should have a medical alert bracelet because I am severely allergic to penicillin, sulfa drugs and pecans, but I am so vain. Carly Simon did a good job describing me in her song, “You are So Vain” LOL. Seriously, this bracelet would help me look good while also having the medical alert information if God forbid something happened.

Great idea that can save lives!!

  • 15 Mama C // Aug 1, 2008 at 3:23 am

Gma Pat should wear one. She does not wear a medical ID but needs to. Those are gorgeous.

Our pediatrician just handed me this brochure yesterday! My daughter was just diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and needs a bracelet for when she returns to preschool in September. I think the mood beads are pretty cool! I like that they are engravable with several lines for her name, condition, and even my cell phone number. Here’s hoping I win, because I want to order her one soon! Thanks for the chance.

I love the Butterfly Kisses bracelet. I have a friend with Diabetes who would LOVE this! thanks.

  • 51 April (That Crazy Mom) // Aug 1, 2008 at 7:10 pm

I would LOVE to win this. My 15 yr old son is a Type 1 diabetic (good to see Lauren’s Hope supports JDRF!!) and with him being away from home more often and almost driving age, I worry about him. (I have twin brothers that are also diabetic, one wrapped his truck around a tree b/c his blood sugar got low while he was driving.)

But its so hard to find something stylish enough for him to wear and being a single mom makes it harder for me to buy him one. So he would be THRILLED to have one of these. I don’t know what he’d pick but I like the guitar pick necklaces and the tube bracelets.

Thanks to both of you for hosting this giveaway.

  • 52 Christine // Aug 1, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Such a wonderful idea! I’m allergic to penicillin and the Square Silver Watch Medical ID Bracelet would be fun to wear, love it! Thank you so much!

The sterling silver mothers’ medical bracelet is a beautiful piece in its own right….. as both a mother, and a CNA (hopefully soon to be RN), I know both how important it is for kids’ to not feel “different” or “singled out (as those typical medical id bracelets can seem to do… yet I also realize how vitally important having that medical information can be in helping to save that same childs’ life! What a superb idea… this is the first I’ve heard of these bracelets… I’ll be sure to pass this site on!

I am a teacher in Brooklyn and I need to wear one, but I don’t. Many of my students should be wearing one as well, but they don’t either.
