This post is written for my Tweightloss Challengers: FATURATION POINT. Go Team!
Here is a fabulous way to incorporate strength training while out walking!
If you’re a mama with children of stroller age, I believe firmly that if you really want to SHRINK your body, you need to do weight training. The goal is a smaller dress size, right? Not necessarily fewer pounds. If I were to tell you my weight, you’d think I was fat! My goals are the same as yours- hot body in expensive jeans! This is a sample workout you could do while you’re kids are in the stroller. Keep the workout short 45 minutes or less, but the intensity should be high. You should be able to talk, but not really a long casual conversation, ok? If you children are the antsy type, let them get out at every stop and do what mommy is doing. You can also sing to them while you are exercising. Power walk between exercises!!
Note: This is a very beginner workout. As you progress, you can add sets and repetitions to these exercises and can even add weights. Most of these exercises could be done in your home as well. Instead of walking between exercises, I would grab a jump rope and jump for a minute between sets. This will really burn MASSIVE calories.
* 10 minute walking warm-up
*Leg Lunges. Put one hand on the stroller and perform 10 walking lunges on each leg while moving forward. Think about the muscles being worked at that moment. Back straight, knees at a ninety degree angle.
*Leg Lunges with a back kick. Perform the same leg lunge but add a leg raise in the back by squeezing your butt muscles together.
*While at the park, find a picnic bench or a bench around the plants and perform 10 step ups on each leg. Pretend it’s a step bench like you would find in an aerobics class.
*Take a towel, and in the grass you can do a static body pike for 30 seconds followed by Alternating Supermans on your stomach. Lifting opposite arm and leg and squeezing at the top of each repetition.
* Back to the park bench, you can do push-ups followed by negative tricep dips keeping your elbows in and lowering your body while keeping your core tight.
*Purchase an exercise band with handles at your local sports store. They come in different resistance levels- blue, green and red. (I like red but it depends on you) Take the band and wrap it around a tree or fence and you can perform a pull-back row style exercise that is great for your upper back. Try for 10 to start. Also, stand on the band with both feet, and pull it up with your elbows pointing toward the sky. This will work your triceps.
This workout is very similiar to what you’d find in Stroller Strides, Stroller Fit, or any of the other exercise with a stroller style program. All or one of these types might be available in your town. The goal is weight training and to build your muscles which take up less space than fat in your body.
