How I love you!
How many ways can I cook you?
Carabanara, Ragu, Pesto, Walnut Pesto, Tomato Basil.
Penne, Spaghetti, Linguini, Cannoli, Ravioli, Lasagne
I used to be so proud of the hundreds of ways I could cook pasta. Giada Di Laurentis, Flavors of Tuscany, Tuscany the Beautiful Cookbook filled with wonderful ways to cook, eat and delight in pasta. We’ve had a love affair for quite sometime. As a child you were my comfort food in the form of macaroni and cheese, spaghetti with a jar of ragu in college, and even early in our marriage- eggs, cheese, and proscuitto for a wonderful fattening sauce.
Must say goodbye to you for now! I will miss you. Planning on savoring it on birthdays or special events, but for now, you must stay out of my diet.
Why am I giving up something I love so much?
* Pasta isn’t doing anything for my flab. Yes, I have flab. I want to be a lean mean machine on October 4th, 2008 and pasta is filling my belly- by filling it OUT.
* Athletes need complex carbohydrates. A complex carb is a vegetable, fruit and brown rice. Below you will find a list I swiped from Hammer Nutrition’s free knowledge page. In essence, athletes and if you sweat- I am talking to you, need more vegetables and fruits and NO PASTA.
*Pasta is not a nutrient dense food. You don’t get extra vitamins, minerals, or antioxidants by eating pasta.
*Oatmeal and I, we have issues as well. I eat you with peanut butter, walnuts and craisins and I am STILL hungry 2 hours later. Thinking of saying goodbye to you as well. Except, the family would not be happy about this. I read today on Hammer’s site that if you eat too many carbs in one meal and are hungry too soon, that you are having a sugar crash! What’s up with that? Breakfast foods will need to consist of primarily egg white omelets jammed with veggies, protein pancakes, and protein shakes.
Post on deck: nutrient dense recipes. Yes, I need a cookbook for athletes! Do you have any recommendations?

well I too have said goodbye to pasta, only have it about once a month or special occasions, but I love me some whole wheat couse couse(however you spell it). I put turkey meat and marinera sauce on it and enjoy! I think you should stick with the oatmeal but just put walnuts in it and fruit, and have 2 egg whites. My biggest problem is protein, I can’t fit it in all the time!

What’s this???!!! Why do I have to find out this way. I NEED PASTA! No wonder I had a bad race last Saturday, NO PASTA. Daddy needs the fuel to bring home $20 primes and big prize money. Don’t stop the good stuff.
Love,
Husband Paul

Try Tinkyada’s Brown Rice Pasta Vegetable spirals. They are wheat free & gluten free and the only in gredients are stone ground brown rice, carrot powder, tomato powder, spinach powder & water.

I like Fitarella’s suggestion – also, you could try whole wheat pasta since it has more complex carbs and fiber than regular white flow pasta.
Everything in moderation.

err…white ‘flour’ not ‘flow’.
