If you must…

Raise your hand if you are a soda drinker.

My hubby is a competitive cyclist, has 5.5% percent body fat, and rides his bike 120-200 miles per week AND still enjoys a cold Diet Dr. Pepper. He is not nearly as particular about his food choices as I am. In fact, one of his common requests complaints is that there is nothing to drink. From the standpoint of the grocery shopper, I hate to buy soda. It’s expensive, nutrient deficient, “space taker upper” in the fridge and creates waste.

I was intrigued when I heard about the Soda Club machine. Very slim, “star treky” looking machine that offers an opportunity to make soda at home! When it first arrived, I made my husband unpack it and put it together. (I get intimidated by machines). This machine is seriously easy to use and the soda tastes great! Simply fill the 1 liter bottle with cold water, screw it in to the fountain jet, pump the button three times to carbonate and it’s done! 1 minute to a fresh, bubbly glass of soda. Then, you have your choice on what kind of soda to make. The starter kit comes with 10 different flavors of soda to make as well as two flavored waters. My husband loves the machine and all the flavors! I stick with the soda waters and occasionally enjoy the naturally flavored diet grapefruit soda. We even had a soda sampling party in our front yard one evening to all of our dog walkers- I’m excited to say that the Soda Club passed with flying colors!!

Are you curious about the ingredients? Same as in a regular soda with one major exception- 1/3 of the calories. On the Cola: Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, water, caramel, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, sucralose, caffeine, and sodium benzoate. NOT HEALTHY DRINK, people! However, if you are a Coca-Cola person or a Pepsi person, the Soda Club Cola offers only 35 calories versus 100. Check here for a complete listing.

The Soda Club starter kits costs $89.99 with no shipping charges. The CO2 Cartridge will charge 110 liter bottles of soda and a replacement is $20. The Soda Club flavors costs $4-$5 dollars and can make 48 servings. A one liter bottle makes 3-4 glasses of soda. If you were to compare the cost and convenience of a soda from the store, the Soda Club machine is by far cheaper.

Finally, this is an earth friendly product. There is no waste. No need to recycle tons of empty soda cans. It’s a space saver and it’s not electric.

So, if you MUST drink soda, then you might as well be cheap and eco-conscious!

Your husband is in awesome shape! I bike regularly, but more like 50 – 80 miles a week. Maybe that’s why I haven’t hit 5.5%!!

On soda – my take, similar to yours, is to avoid it. We rarely buy it. I prefer water. Does sound like an interesting idea for someone who does drink soda, but I think I’ll pass!

I’m not much of a soda drinker, but that does sound like a worthwhile product. I especially like that the bottles are reusable – normal plastic soda bottles seem so wasteful!

You guys are so funny. I was just checking in to change the title but I guess, I shall leave it.
Hubby enjoys a nice cold soda now and again. He says he’s a reformed soda drinker –which is somewhat like a functional alcoholic. But does agree that soda is not doing him any good.

I use this too – but i tossed the flavors it came with and then we add flavored stevia to it – they have rootbeer flavor, lemon lime, etc.

I never have liked the taste of soda much. Every once in awhile, I like a nice cold root beer in a bottle but – other than that – I’d choose water or juice over soda any day.

Hmmm…I am a Diet Coke guy about once a week. I like the suggestion. Kudos to your husband on his great cycling accomplishments!

When can I come over to your house and try it out? You know how much I love almost any kind of drink that goes fizz. Thanks for the info.

    OH.. I’m intrigued now.
We aren’t big soda drinkers, the wife has her one can of mt dew daily and I drink my diet pepsi only at work.
    I’d love to experiment this.

[...] Remember this post? The very snazzy soda club machine that makes soda, bubbly water for pennies on the dollar?! I have just recently replaced the CO2 cartrigride and am LOVING IT… Kids and I drink bubbly water all day long and they love making the machine “fart”!! And, as a special treat that get to have “soda”…mom dilutes the lemon-lime soda by half and they don’t know the difference!! [...]
