Dynamic activites for kids to do indoors

June 13th, 2008 · 6 Comments

The panic is starting! Summer vacation- two kids all day under the age of five. What are we going to do? Cost of gas is going to keep us near home most days, so, here comes the Phys Ed mommy to the rescue. Run the house like a P.E. class for one hour a day. Set up stations for your kids to rotate through and do it with them! Set a time and do it at the same time every day. If possible CLEAR your carpet of toys, if not, them move to the periphery. My favorite activities with kids include scarves, bean bags, hula hoops and music. With those five things you can keep everybody busy and happy for a long time.

I also just got a chance to try out these super FUN SLIDES that are inexpensive and for the carpet! My kids have a blast with them even though they are still a little too young for them. You can purchase Fun Slides at Target or online at eToys and for a complete listing go here. We slipped these skates on and “slip slidding away…” they went. If my boys were a bit older I can see my living room turning into a hockey rink with skates, sticks and pucks all for indoors!  These skates have sizes up to 15, so everybody can have a pair.

Here are a few other fun things you can do with your kids this summer:

Scarve Juggling. Start with one scarf and practice catching. Right to Left, left to right, overhand, underhand, etc..The object is to teach them how to catch one properly so they can progress to two and three.

Bean Bags. Unlimited Activities. Target throwing, underhand throwing, catching, balance, obstacles, It’s endless and they are cheap. It is an item that must be taught. Don’t just say here go play and off you go to your computer..Noooooo, demonstrate how you want them to play with them.

Hula Hoops: Unlimited. Obstacle course, jumping, balance, pre-req to jumping rope, hula hooping, etc..

Music: Kids love to sing, dance and get wild. Get those FUN SLIDES out and dance with the skates.

No hardwood floors honey. Will scratch it all up. We have wood in all the hallways so they are contained in one room at a time.

they DO WORK on the wood, Fitarella.

but I learned the hard way that as echoed above they scratch (oops. mama wanted to try it out—cant even blame that one on the Toddler)

There was a product similar to this that came out when I was a kid. I remember my brother and I loved them they were so much fun! BTW this is a great post, many ppl are trying to come up with new ways to entertain their children and I think you hit the nail on the head with this post….great suggestions.
