Healthy Eating Sunday: Tips for snacking on the road
Picture yourself out on the town with your children, shopping, going to the park, the gym, etc… your child needs a snack and you are prepared, ALWAYS. What’s in the bag for you?? Nothing. No water, no protein, no fruit, zero. You can submit to a fishy cracker. But, once your stomach is rumbling, it’s over. You will be bombarded with unhealthy choices on every corner! You will NOT hit the drive-thru. You will NOT subject yourself to 300 calorie coffee drinks.
One of my goals this week is to never leave home without smart snacks.
Apple Slices
Nuts -fistfull
Carrot sticks
Carry your own salad dressing!
Fruit of your choice
WATER
Perfect Pick me up Juice:
1 Whole Pineapple (peeled)
4-5 leafs of Kale
1 apple
1 orange peeled
1 lemon peeled
Juice Kale first, then add pineapple, apple, orange, lemon. Stir, serve on ice. Delicious, healthy energizing drink. Pack in Camelbak bottle and you’re ready for the day.
If you’ve got ideas for me, please post a comment!

i am a writer and work from coffee shops A LOT, but can’t be plunking down $10 for a mayo-filled sandwich and a banana every day, so here’s what I do: empty two packets plain instant oatmeal into a ziplock bag, along with a bit of brown sugar and a small handful craisins or dried cherries. At Starbucks, I’ll ask for a grande cup of boiling water, half-way full. Empty contents into water, stir, add in a little skim milk, and in 2 minutes, I’ve got delish, filling oatmeal. I literally do this so often, the baristas see me come up and go, “Oatmeal time?” I save the ziplock and refill later that night. So good! I do this at airports, too

these are great ideas, thanks! I just recently got the camelback water bottle–which I LOVE!!! and just realized it has the dreaded #7 on the bottom, which means it is made from recently recalled bpa plastic. I am so sad!
Is there anything similar out there?

I just read on their website that all of their bottles will be BPA free as of 5/1/08. I guess I got one from the last bad batch!

Had no idea about that. Checked mine and it’s an older one and has a 1 on it. Hope that’s ok.
