I know you all go out everyday wearing sunscreen, right? You are protecting your skin 100% of the time. There’ s sunscreen in your moisturizer, makeup and you wear extra sunscreen for your long runs, am I right?!! You better be. I’ve read some reports that you can damage your skin within sixty seconds of being in the direct sunlight. First of all, the sun is 90% responsible for your aging skin. The sun is also going to cause the collagen in your skin to breakdown which results in sagging skin! YUCK! This is not the time for a sunscreen lecture, though, it is time to talk about hats. Apparently, I have been living under a rock for the last ten years, because I had no idea that there are now high-quality hats that provide great sun protection with the athlete in mind.
As an ever present outside kind of girl (ex- phys- ed teacher), I’ve made it my business to wear a hat when I’m in the sun. I don’t wear those lumpy straw kinds at Rite-aid, either. I have been known (back in the day) to spend $$$ on one great straw hat (made in Australia). In addition, I have more than one “Life is Good” hat which I love- mostly because of the style- not necessarily because of the function. So, this leads me to Headsweats. Have you ever heard of it? This company has been around for ten years and has thought of everything- in regards to protecting your HEAD!
“Our products are made from a variety and combination of fabrics: CoolMax Fabric, CoolMax Terry, and AquaTrans Elastic which rapidly wicks away moisture from your skin and transports it to the outside within seconds, leaving your skin dry and fresh even during strenuous exercise. CoolMax is designed to pull moisture away from your skin. Dries 3 to 4 times faster than cotton. And, the CoolMax Terry sweatband has loops that increase the surface area for incredible moisture transfer. “
The Race Hat is a soft, ponytail friendly, durable and washable hat! It’s been designed to whisk away sweat from your head using materials such as CoolMax fabric and it offers a terry sweatband which will keep the sweat out of you eyes and face. All the hats have UVF sun protection built in. My race hat is a cute, stylish pink and I’ve enjoyed running in it. I also appreciated the fact I could manage the hair “problem” and protect my skin at the same time!

The Supervisor was seriously cool! Again, a great way to manage the hair problem and protect your skin. Between the two hats, I preferred the visor- as I felt it was a bit more stylish than the Race Hat, however, if I was going to be in the sun longer than an hour, I would worry about burning my scalp!
Headsweats offers a HUGE variety of hats for different sports- such as cycling, rowing, golfing, cooking, sprinting, podium hats, long bill hats, and Protech hats to prevent sunburn on your neck. Wonder if Miz Fit would like the CoolMax Shorty?

I love my hats as well! (so much so that my son knows I don’t leave home without one) I have several Nike hats but can always use a new one, so I will go and check out Headsweats. Thanks!

I’m not as good on the sunscreen as I should be and I feel appropriately chastised for it by your post. I’ll do better in the future, I promise!
I do pretty much always wear a hat on my runs though. My current favorite is a Boston Marathon cap my husband bought for me on a business trip – fits me better than any of my others.
But the headsweats ones look really cute! Maybe a future purchase.

[...] Ever put a coconut on your head? Personally, it wouldn’t have occured to me, but apparently, the material in coconuts make great hats. I’ve had my hats for a month now and they really do what they say! My review is here. [...]

I must have been living under the rock with you! I am not familiar with this company or hats made from coconut. Although; now, clothing and other things are made with bamboo! Going natural!
I wear 3/4 length or long sleeves during the summer. I only wear capris or light weight pants, also, I don’t have any good hats or visors. Please enter me in your drawing. I appreciate it. Many thanks,Cindi
