My fatty muscle

Back problems have plagued me my whole life. The athletic nature that I am (runner, cyclist) require the muscles of my quadriceps & hip flexors to be really well developed and the minor muscles surrounding them to be really weak.   John Howard told me this, two chiropractors have told me this, however, I continue to do the same things day in and day out. Running and Cycling each get a dedicated time slot in my week and ab and strength work get thrown in randomly and the last thing on my daily list is the CORE workouts!

So, yesterday, as I was taking my oldest son from his bed to the bathroom, I managed to throw my back completely out of whack.  I had back spasms going up,  down and around my lower back. All I could do was sit down. This is the worst it’s ever been. I’ve got a history of low back pain- too much exercise in the front of the body and too little in the back. My chiropractor (thankfully a neighbor) showed me a picture of the muscle in my back that is completely non-existent. You’ve heard the old saying, “you will lose it if you don’t use it.” Dang it, this is me and I’m mad about it.

Ways to strengthen it are the Cat-Cow pose in yoga and the body balance pose in pilates. Both exercises I do, but not enough. A person with a strong back, you will actually see a dimple on the spot where the muscle is and I have nothing.

Exercises I will be doing “Fix the back, stay in the drops” by Cyclo-Core and all the Runner-Core exercises! I have to do them everyday. GoWorkoutMom has “goal call” Monday and I need to go put myself down for yoga everyday.

You all better learn from my mistakes! Even though I stretch, do yoga, etc. I do NOT DO IT ENOUGH!!!!!
