Redlands Triathlon Race Results

February 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Last weekend, was the Redlands Triathlon. This is a sprint triathlon that happens annually in Redlands and the distances are 5km Run, 10 Mile Bike, and 100 yard Swim. My husband and I competed against each other in 2001, 2002, and 2003, and the last time we did it together, he beat me by 3 seconds! Luckily, he hasn’t been running (he didn’t race), so the clock was my motivation. The race results from 2003 were still available online and I’m happy to say that I beat my time by 3 minutes! 2003 time was 59:00 and on Sunday, I did it in 56:26! I managed to place 2nd in my age group.

The run was the hardest-22:36. Thankfully, there was no puking going into the transition zone. I was slow changing my shoes and getting rolling, but once I was on my bike, IT WAS PARTY TIME! Cycling is much easier for me than running. Swimming was a piece of cake- as I did not cramp, however, I am NOT a fast swimmer. Some girl passed me on the swim and there was nothing I could do about it… At least she wasn’t in my age group!

I’ve scavenged the internet looking for photos of the event, but at this point, nothing. I wore my Velo Bella kit from Team Estrogen. The shorts were awesome! They did great on the run, bike and swim- no chaffing, and they felt great on even when wet. I had on a long bra top underneath my jersey, that worked great in the pool. If I had to do it again, I’d probably buy a long bra top that is designed for triathlons- so the transitions could be faster!

Triathlons are a lot of fun! The sprint distance is a great place to start if you’ve never done one. It’s a fantastic challenge for your all around body fitness. There are new moms clubs popping up all over the US that would offer you support and encouragement- See Mommy Run and Moms In Motion just to name a few.

You go! But you never mentioned if you beat your husband… ;)

    P.S. That shirt is awesome!
P.P.S. Your description was so inspiring that I imagined competing in a triathlon myself. It sounds like so much fun!
