CONTEST/GIVEAWAY!!

My family loves the Sea Otter Classic! We’ve gone every year since we meet in 1999. Between my husband and myself, we’ve competed in the mountain bike race, the road race, the circuit race and the race to get out of town. It’s a great event. Last year, we were lucky enough to find the Simbree booth.

Simbree means wholesome, simple and fresh energy food. I remember when I first heard of Simbree at the Sea Otter Classic, my husband kept going back for more food! They had a booth set up near the big slide jumper, so I would watch my kids and Paul would go on a hunt for food! Simbree has three flavors of bites, Oat Almond Pistachio, Maple Walnut, and Cashew Coconut. He loved the bites so much, that we must have bought a bag each day we were at Sea Otter plus a bag to go home!

I had the privilege of talking to the owner of the company, Sally Virgin, the other day and I am thrilled to be sharing what I learned from her about her company and food!

What was your inspiration for this company?

My granola! I had been making it for my family for 20 years and they loved it. My friend and I started the business and it was his idea to make a bar from the same ingredients.

Tell me about the bars themselves:

The ingredients are fresh, wholesome and simple. It is 60% organic and all natural. At this point, the nuts and honey are the only ingredients that are not organic. We’d like to keep our products from becoming too expensive- and investing in organic can seriously raise the price of the products. A 6 ounce bag of energy bites is $4.75 and a few will satisfy the appetite! These bars are great for hiking, backpacking, cycling, or any outdoor sport because they offer great flavor, low price and convenient packaging.

Where is Simbree sold?

Simbree is now sold nationwide as well as Canada in small grocery stores, whole food stores, and online at Simbree or Amazon. Simbree also goes to expos and events throughout the year and you can check her website for upcoming events here.

What I thought was particularly interesting..

Her vision for the company is to keep the products priced competitively-as she believes in the need for small grocery stores that are privately owned to stay in business. She wishes to support their business as they have supported hers.

Do you have any new flavors coming out soon?

We do, it’s called Huckleberry Blueberry and it should be coming out in the next year. I was challenged by a friend here in the Northwest to make a bar using only ingredients that are grown within a 100 miles of Mt. Rainer. My Dad will be excited! He climbed it in 2002 and has attempted Mt. Hood and Mt. Baker and loves the Pacific Northwest.

Simply post a comment with a possible name for “That Pig” and you will be entered to win a Red Tin of Energy Bites! How cool is that? Winner must provide a U.S. Mailing Address! Deadline to enter contest is Tuesday, February 19th.**** Laura R is the winner!!
