Healthy Eating Sunday: Fat Loss Week

January 28th, 2008 · 5 Comments

For the next 7 days, my husband and I are going to focus on Graeme Street’s Cyclo-Fuel Training plan for the everyday cyclist. He has a complete nutrition plan for Fat Loss, Performance, and Maintance. There will be short/ high intensity workouts that will drain “tanks” of glycogen and help burn the fat storages.

Tips:

1. Use a food journal. Start yourself a journal and document every bite. I’ve read this everywhere!! Julia Cameron has a book out called Write Yourself Thin, Carrie Underwood is interviewed this week in Shape, Women’s Health, this is one of the keys to losing weight. Righting it down makes it REAL.

2. Take Responsibility for Yourself. Quit blaming others for what morsels land in your mouth!

3. Try to follow the no food 3 hours prior to a workout, event, or race. Steve Born, Hammer Nutrition, has written copious amounts of articles on this topic alone.

4. Crank UP the Fruits and Vegetables!

5. NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP

Recipe taken from FAT LOSS portion of Nutrition Plan

STICK TO YOUR RIBS OATMEAL & ALL NATURAL PEANUT BUTTER WITH BLUBERRIES

1/2 cup uncooked oats (Quaker)

1 cup of water

Dash of cinnamon

1 Splenda packet

1 tbsp of all-natural peanut butter

1/4 cup frozen blueberries

1. Bring water to a boil and add cinnamon.

2. Add the oats and reduce the heat to medium low.

3. Keep stirring the oats until they become thick.

4. Scoop out and place in a bowl.

5. Add blueberries, PB, and Splenda packet and mix.

6. Let stand for 60 seconds and enjoy.

Variations: raw nuts like slivered almonds, walnuts, or raisins.

    That oatmeal sounds good :)

I wasn’t expecting to see Splenda in there, though. I’ll stick with sugar but I do want to try the peanut butter/blueberry combo.
