Calling all Cyclists, triathletes

January 7th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Today is a rainy day. So sad cause we can’t go on the road with our fancy bicycles. It’s so exciting to get suited up for a bike ride. Our clothes are so colorful, the wind so fresh, cool air brushing past our cheeks as we fly downhill, quadriceps burning as we stand to climb, sips of water on the downhills, sometimes, I just want to yell, WHOOPEE!!!!! I even get that feeling when I get suited up for a bike ride in the garage. Tonight was particularly inviting because I would be alone in the garage for 45 minutes.

I intended to jump on my bike and watch a mindless movie while I rode, however, I was fumbling around with the TV for too long so I grabbed one of my husbands’ Cycling DVD’s called 45 minute Yoga-Spin by Graeme Street.

Graeme Street owner of Cylco-Core and Cylco-Zen programs are designed to improve the “everyday cyclists” speed, power, flexibility, and performance on the bike. Tonight’s workout was awesome. I started with 10 minutes of sun-salutations which are classic yoga poses, then I climbed on my bike and completed 5 intervals of 3 minutes each, and then finished my workout with fifteen more minutes of a Power Yoga routine. I loved it. My heart rate for the intervals was between 160-178 for the last one. In retrospect, I possibly should have gone harder for the first three, although, I am not sure.

This workout can be done 2 times per week in the off-season and possibly only one time per week during the regular cycling season. Ttiathletes, I think this is a great quick workout for you with high intensity. Combining the yoga with the cycling is a excellent way to incorporate some vital stretching with the interval training.

Go get fit in 2008!
