Riding with Connie Carpenter

It’s pretty fun riding with her, I have to say! Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter host bike camps every summer for cycling enthusiasts like me. My first summer was the women’s camp and it was a blast!! I earned the “pacificer” award as well as the “Queen of the Mountains” award. Obviously, I’m more proud of the Queen of the Mountain award. Back in the day, I could really climb my bike. My first two years of racing collegiate I used an old Centurian and I guess that made me stronger, because when I got in groups of women- I could at least ride at the front of the group. The “pacifier” was because I was the youngest in the group. This camp was really the place the I learned to corner, descend, how to ride in a group, bike fit, and all things related to women’s cycling.

For a woman cyclist, there is nobody better to learn from than Connie Carpenter and Davis Phinney.   They taught me how to corner the first year- then the second year, in Tuscany, I was able to master it.   WOW! What a difference it made to my cycling and my confidence.

I’m not sure what the point of this blog is, other than to reminisce about riding in Italy! Everyone should experience cycling in Italy, it’s a different world there!
