There are so many benefits of yoga that it will be impossible to list all of them here, however, I’d like to focus on the most important aspects of a good yoga practice. We all have such busy lives! Stress gets built up in our bodies and it needs a release. Sometimes, a good long run will physically help me, however, I can’t always make my mind BE QUIET when I’m running. The repetitive actions of running and cycling just enable me to regurgitate the same old problems-nothing gets fixed- just recycled! However, since the practice of yoga requires all your faculties- it can be SO HELPFUL in reducing stress and enjoying life.
It is a non-competitive environment where the only person involved is you and your body. It forces you to listen to how your body is feeling and responding. A good yoga practice will force you to engage your physical, mental and emotional well being. If you can force YOUR MIND to stop it’s mindless chatter and listen to the breath while performing yoga postures, you can seriously rejuvenate yourself. A few of the physical benefits of yoga include improved posture, increased flexibility, strengthening of all your muscles, increases the blood supply and can harmonize the mind and body.
The ultimate goal of yoga is “enlightenment”. You are successful at yoga because you are doing yoga. It’s not about completing a 5km in 21 minutes- it’s about what you are doing at that moment. Find a good yoga class in your community and make a date with yourself once a week- you deserve it!

I do yoga each day and still have a busy mind. However, I think it is the consistency that really quiets the mind, even if temporarily. Meditation helps too but I don’t do nearly enough of that.
