So, you think you are a hotshot? Get your kicks by passing a woman on a hill? Well guess what Mr. Cyclist, I have ridden with world class athletes and they always called a greeting to passing cyclists. Also, they are humble about their accomplishments and ride with their buddies. They don’t hammer them just to prove a point. They already have reaped the awards.
Under normal circumstances, it is okay to pass someone on a hill, however, it is not recommended to pass without first saying hello. This is poor cycling etiquette (especially if you have hairy legs) and I can guarantee that if you were to pass me without a greeting, I am going to get pissed off and track you down. By that I mean that I will kill myself and muster up every last morsel of energy and kick your butt on the next hill!
I have ridden with WORLD CLASS CYCLISTS and it is in poor taste to blow past someone. Unless you got the gold medal in cycling at the Olympics, you are not that hot, I promise.
Next time you are passing someone on a hill- be friendly about it.

A “hello” is nice while being passed. I think I find long dissertations worse than silence. I’m sucking wind on a hill, and someone’s passing me and asking about the weather, how many miles I’ve gotten on my tires, and what chamois cream I use.
I had one fellow pass me on a hill during a century ride making the sound of a formula one car running through the gears. I laughed so hard I almost fell off the bike!
